Canon Pixma mp800...2 years old.... got message "wrong print head"; i turned the machine off and now it will not turn back on?

I have had the printer for 2 years. Today I pressed Print and got message: "wrong printhead". I attempted to reset the printer; when this didn't work, I turned the printer off. I tried to turn the printer back on and absolutely nothing happens? What do you think has gone wrong. (Recently I installed this printer on a new computer, which is running Vista; printer has been working ok in this configuration for 6 months or so)

I of course have check connections (having reconnected) and also pluged into a different electrical outlet.

Probably a dead controller board. have you check voltage in the circuitry of the machine. In any case, I believe you will be replacing it as that would be the cheaper method rather than repairing it and I suggest going with an hp printer which I find much more reliable

let me know if you have any further questions and I would be glad to answer them

Try to connect the printer back to the old computer where it was working fine before and also press the power button for about 10 sconds after you plug it to a power outlet and check if the printer will even respond....

Now that the printer won't turn on:

disconnect the printer from the computer.
check for any obstructions inside.
use another power outlet.
turn it on.

if you can't go past this test, the printer needs servicing.

Try unplugging the printer power cord for at least ten minutes, then plug it back.

Try also removing the ink cartridge and reinstalling them back on printer.

If that diod not work, then the print head is faulty and should be replaced.

Installed Office Depot ink cartridges, BCI 6 C and Y in my MP780. Worked ok at first, but then started getting "wrong cartridge" msg, Per canon rep, turned off mach, disconnected power, took out...

This is an example of why 2nd class refills are junk. I would try to gently clean the printer out. While a lot of people disagree with this advice, a mixture of 90% alcohol in a tiny pipit works well. Then use some lint free q-tips. Most cartridges have electronic chips on them that report the status of the cartridge. Refilled ink cartridges may have bad or defect chips.

"wrong cartridge"- Printer is giving us a "wrong

Hi Sherri

I am having the same problem with my MP780 mine started doing the same thingafter deciding to use Calidad inks the large black ink leaked into the yellowink (stick to canon inks).

What I have done so far with no success -
Replaced the ink cartridges with new ones supplied by Calidad, still the sameproblem.
Removed and cleaned the print heads manually and to my surprize after soakingin warm water and multiple cleanings for over 1hr black ink is still coming outof the yellow ink head.
I still get the same message after all I have tried...

One thing I did manage to do is prime the yellow ink and got it flowing throughthe head again but it's still mixed with black... I wonder if you may have runout of magenta and dried the head...

Try priming the magenta ink by removing the head (don't touch or wet the metalcontacts at the rear, the ink heads are on the bottom) place on a clean lintfree cloth (or I just used damp tissues then dry tissues) you should get onelong black strip and two cyan, two magenta and two yellow strips on the tissue,if you do not then try priming by replacing the magenta cartridge and gentlypumping the cartridge up and down repeat until you get the ink flowing.

Replace the head and cartridges, press ok, turn the printer off then reset.

Let me know if it works or if you come up with another solution that works as Iam still trying to figure out how to fix mine.

Good luck

I am getting a "wrong print head" error message.

Turn the printer off.
Disconnect the power-cord from the wall-outlet.
Reconnect the power.
Turn the printer on.
If you still get the same message, it's time to responsibly recycle the printer,
and buy a replacement -- maybe you can buy a new PIXMA that takes the same ink-cartridges???

Printer made machine gun noise. will not print.

The print head is stuck - something has jammed it and the noise you are hearing is the carriage for the print head. Open the top and try moving the head by head sideways to see what has jammed it.

Canon Pixma MP780 "Wrong Cartridge" Error Message

I have two Pixma 780's. After getting the "wrong cartridge" error one day when I turned it on, (I knew it was the right cartridge) I tried switching ink tanks, and the print head cartridge several times between the two printers. the problem followed the black print head cartridge, so I am guessing I need a new one. From that experience, I would recomend swithing the print cartridge if you get this error. Does anyone know how to do a reset on this machine? A Canon tech told me once, but I lost the info.

NO PRINT HEAD

First remove cartridges and remove print head and make sure the contacts on back of head look clean. I use fibreglass pen and give clean if in doubt. But be very carefull cleaning. But maybe not seated correctly.? If you pull the print head out and do another test does it come up with same message.?
Try again and see what you get. Still worth replacing head if faulty as where else can you get a 8 ink printer. Unsure what head costs.
