Question about Fuji FinePix S700 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Fuji S700 Will this camera take a memory card called SDHC (I believe those are the last 2 letters) Future Shop personnel weren't sure if this camera purchased in early 2007 would be able to handle this card or if I should only use an SD card without the last 2 letters.

I have this camera and was able to use a "HP Invent" 4GB SDHC card. It worked fine. Although when I insert it tells me at first I have 70 minutes of video and then changes to 39 minutes. However when I recorded I was able to use all 70 minutes. Not sure if other brands or even high GB would work. I am still experimenting myself.

I don't want you to think I'm calling you less than intelligent, but it sounds like you need to flip the card over. Of course, it could be the spring... I would contact the US branch of Fuji.

Take a small flash light and see if there is a part of a memory card in there, if there is cleaning it out would solve the problem. Also make sure you're putting the memory card in the right way. I've you've done that and it's still giving you problems try going into the menu's and formatting the memory card in the camera.

Will sdhc card work in my fuji s700 camera

The SDHC memory card is a newer version of the SD card and will fit in the memory card slot. However the maximum memory capacity your camera is capable of is 2gig, beyond this the card may not work. You may be able to extend this capacity with a firmware update from the Fuji site.
The SDHC memory card has a lock the same as your SD card here is a diagram to make sure the lock is in the correct position for use. Remember also to format the new card and format after each download of pictures to the computer.

Will sdhc memory card work with S700?

No. The S700 works with SD and xD cards, not with SDHC cards.

My f10 keeps reading "card not initialized"

Is it a new card? You could try to initialize or format it with the function in the camera setup menus. If it won't format, then maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

If all other cards work fine then you may have a faulty memory card.

Your camera should theoretically be able to handle an 8GB SDHC card (but only up to 2GB xD card) as it is an SDHC compatible camera, but I've encountered more than a few cameras in the past which were SDHC compliant but could only handle up to 4GB.

Most of these had firmware updates to enable up to 16GB SDHC but the Fuji S1000fd has no firmware update.

If you find that the SDHC card is fine after all then I'd suggest contacting Fuji for a definite say so as to whether they know of any issues with 8GB SDHC compatibility.

Do your camera rely on usb or on memory card?

Memory card: just take out the memory card and insert it in a card reader / or your laptop/computer if it has a card reader.

USB: attach your usb to your camera and then laptop/computer. Your system will then try to recognize your camera. After it recognize it, you should be able to access it from My Computer > Camera Drive Letter (example F:)

I can't save images from my Fuji S5700 to my

Try removing the memory card and reading it through a card reader inserted into a USB port. Have you installed the program that came with the camera? I never used mine because I have other high end graphics programs and I always use a card reader instead of the cable. You WILL need the program if you want to do a firmware/BIOS update in the S700, and also the cable. The S700/5700 will only accept up to a 2gig memory card. If you want to use a 4 gig card, the camera (and also your computer) won't recognize the card until you do the update to the firmware. Available with instructions from FujifilmUSA website.

"Card Not Initialized with 4GB CF memory card"

Steve, S700 and S7000 are different beasts.

S7000 is only rated for 1Gb compact flash cards. It apparently works with 2Gb ones but as I and a lot of others have discovered no matter how you tweak around sectors and clusters it won't read the thing.

This is a Fat16 limitation.
