DVD Recorder Does Not Record

Symphonic WRF205 DVD recorder with vcr. Recorder does not record. Dvd plays fine, but does not record. Service claims optical read head error. How is this posible if it plays all dvd's fine just does not record? Blank dvd's load correctly with no error and show available recording time. When record is initialized, 'error E4 54037380 can not record on this disk' displays. This unit records in dvd-r or dvd-rw format. I'm using same stack of disks I purchased when new. I have used succesively more expensive cleaning dvd's clean it. Surely there is some other solution?

Same issue with mine, and same error. Again, everything works except record. Even adding titles will get to 99% done before the error.

Yes, I agree. Dust on the lense will create this error as it did on mine. However, to save you a lot of tech fees or difficulty in dismantling the machine, just buy a can of AIR or Duster, etc. Open the DVD slide and "unplug" the unit from the wall. This will leave the door open. Lightly push the carrier back about halfway. Use a flashlight to look into the DVD and find the center area. Place the plastic tube on the air can in this area and blow it clean. Don't scrape or touch any of the mechanisms inside for safety. Plug it in and it should work if it is dust. This of course does mean that it will likely do it again and could use a 'good' cleaning as suggested above. But it is an easy quick fix. And if you are like me, I won't use it again for another six months.

It took about 45 minutes, without a manual. Carefully disconnecting all cables and marking them so the would go back in the right place later. Carefully Disassembling the unit, removing the cover - 6 screws, noting all screws and where they came from, pulling the front panel using the plastic tabs, removing the top front edge cover - two screws, removing the disk assembly - 4 screws, pulling the two thin leads so I could pull the entire assembly out. Removing the back plastic cover from the DVD assembly and identifying the Optical Disc Lense. Spraying some LENSE CLEANER on the same cloth that I clean my glasses with, and carefully wiping across - gentle stroke in same direction, then opposite direction - a few times. Spray lense cleaner on the cloth not on the lense. Reassemble. Reverse order of above. Works great now. BEST OF LUCK....Or you can find almost any DVD repair facility. This is not a unique process. I need instructions to record from vhs video player to dvd recorder

Connect the vcr to the dvd recorder via scart. Set TV to your usual dvd channel and power on dvd. Power on vcr and scroll through input channels (AV etc) on dvd recorder until you find the signal from vcr. Prepare the recorder ready to record, then play the vcr and start the dvd to record.

How do i/can i record tv to a DVD ]

If your using RCA cables (thats the red, white & yellow leads) you need run yellow RCA from the 'VIDEO (or) TV OUTPUT' at the back of your tv, to the 'VIDEO (or) TV INPUT' in the back of your DVD/VCR combo unit, & do the same with the red & white 'AUDIO' leads only run them from AUDIO OUTPUT(tv) to AUDIO INPUT(dvdrecorder). Now set the mode of the dvd recorder to TV IN or AUX IN. Now it should record whatever you see on the tv screen. But if your tv has an S VIDEO OUTPUT option, using an S VIDEO cable would be much easier & produces a better copy! Hope this helps!

Symphonic WFR205 DVD recorded but not finalized

I have similar problem. I have recorded all of my old tapes on a DVD-RW disc (lots of time spent on it) and as I wanted to finalize them - it would display an recording error. Recently I purchased a new Sony blue ray player and I realized it would play the not finalized discs. I am still looking for a solution how to record these memories on a PC so I can edit them.

Connect DVD recorder to Video player/recorder- transfer VHStodisc

hook the video output from vcr to dvd input at rear, then hook output from dvd to tv input. note; you can not record protected vcr movies you can only record tv shows from sattelite to vcr or dvd recorder. its best to record straight from sattelite to dvd recorder for picture clarity.

Play the video on your through your recorder if possible, then record it that way. It works for me. Just go to your watch tv setting and record it off channel three while the vcr plays the video.

Symphonic DVD recorder wfr205

I have the same Symphonc DVD- VCR Combo wfr205. I can't get it to work either. I called Syphonic support 2 years ago about it, they told me to clean it. I did. It will recognize DVD's sparodicly, but will not finalize them so that I can play them on anything else. I tried 3 different brands of DVD-R all with the same results. I called Symphonic a 2nd time. They do not offer replacement and have never acknowledged the recoder has a problem. I finally bought a Sony DVD recorder. I can use it along with the VCR portion of the Symphonic. The Symphonic was a waste of cash.
