This is listed as a Camera LENS problem.

and can occur for one or several of the following situations

Camera activating and lens opening while in a confined space
Extracted lens getting jarred
Low battery condition as the unit is turned on or off
Dropping of the camera
Foreign substances, such as dust, sand or dirt entering into the camera body.
General jarring of the camera
General camera malfunction

Recommend solutions I've found are

1. Remove the batteries and activate the power switch with the batteries out for 5 seconds, reinstall batteries and try to use camera.

2. try connecting camera to TV / PC and see if that improves things

3. If the lens is visibly ajar you can try manipulating it manually BUT this usually requires the attention of a professional service tech

Hope this helps you
Dave

TRY THIS OPTIONS 1 BY 1 .ONE OF THEM WILL HELP YOU.
1)tap the camera on the usb side a few times.
2)OFF the camera remove  the CF card and  turn the camera back on. Once it powered up, the lens retracted and the camera works normally again. 3)just replace the old batteries sometimes it get used quickly due to some reason. 4)open the bottom and back screw, the helicoil which is locked, just  release that ….and the camera is back to normal. Do not disassemble the whole camera, just move the case below the lens slightly.and it will automatically get adjusted.

This is the solution offered by the Canon website:

"The "E18" or "Lens" error message indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover.
This error may appear where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting such as, for example, when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed if the lens unit/camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera.

Solution
Check the following when you operate the camera to avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:

  • Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting.
  • Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.
If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred. In this case, you will need to get the camera serviced."

Basically, it looks like the lens is stuck or obstructed. Try twisting the lens gently or pull it out gently to see if this helps. Tapping the camera gently on the palm of your hand has also been known to be helpful in dislodging stuck lens..

You can contact Canon at 1-800-828-4040.

E18 is lens error, tell me if the lens are extending and retracting normally when you turn the camera on and off.

    E18 is lens error.

First remove the batteries and see if this clears the error message.

If the lens do not extend, try slapping gently the back of the camera, and also using you fingernail to help lens out while you turn the camera on.

If lens do not retract, try pushing them gently inside when you turn off the camera.

If that cannot solve the problem, then the lens assembly must be taken apart, cleaned , lubricated and remounted , this job must be done by a technician unless you want to transform your camera in a bunch of bits and screw.

If you need to send the camera for repairs, then you can call the phone number listed on the camera user manual.

Take out the batteries for about 20 minutes, then put new batteries in and see if it works right.
