Check the manual and see if you got the belt config if that not right the tention will not be right also make sure you got the right belt, tention is very important in getting it to stop i hope that helps (compaqsiget over and out)

How to change drive belt

Tom, see pages 23 and 24 from the link below. I have the same tractor but with the 22hp engine. It is much easier to remove the mower deck to replace the drive belt. Make sure your brake is set as this relieves tension on the drivebelt system. Good luck.

Sounds like you have the belt running in the opposite direction. You need to Change the way the belt is routed around the pulleys

My brakes arn't working???

Brakes on mowers wear out like brakes on a car. They may be adjustable. Look on the linkage underneath forward of the rear axle and the brake assembly to see if you can tighten them up a little bit. After that, then you have to remove the rear wheel and replace the brake pads.

I hope this is helpful for you.

I removed the chain brake cover and did not release the brake. is there a way to get the cover back on after the fact?

Hi, carefully put the cover in a vice with the vice jaws tightened up where the bar nuts normally go.Then pull the chain brake lever backwards towards where the handle bar would be. It will require a bit of pressure but it should click back. Then refit the cover.Hope this helps, regards Phil.

There is a bolt rite under the brake bar usually about 1/2" loosen it and turn the little slotted piece left or right leave about 1/4" slop in chain and tighten nut back up. Good Luck...

Craftsman 14 hp 42'' cut mower brake problems

Well the adjustment is in the rear of the tractor above the axle, their should be 1 9/16 clearance when the parking break is depressed, if it's not here than adjust it until it is making sure to tighten down the locknut when completed. Otherwise just replace your pads via craftsman's website. They provide breakdowns for all their units via the model/serial number of your tool.
