Rheem water heater with powerglow ignition wont re-light

I have a Rheem (Ruud) water heater model # PVP50-1 (50 gallon). It has Power Vent and a PowerGlow ignitor. The system will not relight after the tank cools. If I turn off the power and the gas and then turn it back on it lights and heats just fine and then shuts down as it should. After either using the water or just sitting and cooling over night it will not relight itself unless I reset it. Is there a sensor that could be causing this?

Thank you for offering the solution pvoisr. Where did you obtain the parts? I called Rheem and was told the part is obsolete. Any help would be appreciated.

I have fixed mine. The problem part is the Ignition Control module. It is made by Robert Shaw part # SP10758. I paid $93 plus shipping.

Works great now. A repairman wanted to sell me a gas valve for $488.
Watch out for these people.....

Not sure, but there are service manuals by type of gas control valve. However Rheem/ Rudd have no service manuals available for their products:

Have 75 gallon gas water heater. Can I run 90 PVC off top power vent without vertical PVC first? Have Richmond unit.

1) I believe you can immediately elbow the PVC pipe.
There is a limit for how many elbows can be used between blower and termination, and limit is determined by diameter of PVC pipe.

2) Copy following link for venting resources and typical Rheem and Richmond power vent manuals, and diameter-elbow pdf from Bradford White.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#venting

3) Richmond is Rheem. Product manual will show specifications for venting.
Product warranty is voided if installation does not follow specifications shown in manual.

RHEEM 50 GALLON WATER HEATER,4 BLINKS THEN 2 BLINKS ,ECO FAILURE,UNPLUGGED HEATER STARTS UP AGAIN THEN FAILURE OCCURS AGAIN.

That is a power vent failure code.
Rheem is aware of this problem and are changing systems as we speak. Call your Rheem dealer and demand the updated system.

Hi,

The flame sensor is bad....and it is not sensing that the flame has lit....

Some models have a separate flame sensor and some use the ignitor to sense the flame...

If it has a separate sensor then clean it with a soft cloth... if it is the ignitor then the ignitor is bad...

Rheem Power Vent 2 water heater is flashing 4 times and there is no hot water. Model # 41VRP50NT What can I do to fix this? Do I need to call a plumber?

The flashing light is a trouble sequence light. Find your manual to see what 4 flashes means. It's usually attached to the side of the water heater tank. Try a quick fix by unplugging the power vent and see what happens.

The water heater will cycle 5-6-7 times with no probles then it fails ignition. The water heater is a rheem 50 gal power vent 2. It is about 2 years old.

there is a screen around the bottom of the unit? if so take it off and clean it,, does this unit have a self ignitor, or is it piliot? make sure your flue is clear so the unit is not over heating,, make sure on the power vent that the filter is clear also,, does the fan come on before the gas ignites, if not the circuit board is going bad the fan should start first to omit the gas fumes
