AKAI LCD2701 won't turn on

I have a AKAI LCD2701 tv that won't turn on.
The RED LED is lit on the front but I get no response from the remote or power buttons on the side.

I am a EE so I have done a little debug but need some help from someone who knows LCD TV circuits.

There are three boards behind the case. One is clearly the AC/DC power supply board, one seems to be the TV tuner card and one looks to be the master controller. I have +5.0 volts running to the master controller and to all the switches (probably why the RED LED works). The other labeled power outputs (+12v & +24v) from the power board are sitting at GND. I assume this is because the unit is in "standby" waiting for the controller board to signal a power on condition. There is a 27Mhz crystal that probably feeds whatever is under the adjacent heat sink (ASIC or FPGA) on the controller board and that seems to be running okay according to my scope when the AC switch (near the plug entrance) is on. My guess is that the controller for some reason is not enabling the power on condition. Here are a couple of my questions:

1) Any safety features I can look for that would keep the controller from turning on the power. I am thinking of thermal protection, under voltage conditions, etc.

2) There is a connector from the controller board to the power board that has SB+5.0, GND and SB. The first one is sitting at +5volts, the later two at GND. I was thinking of shorting the +5.0 to the SB with a 10k resistor to see if I could force the power supply on since my guess is that it is the power on signal. I am hesistant since I don't have a schematic and only guessing.

Thanks in advance.

It is solid red all the time when the unit has AC pwr (which I think is the normal state of the LED when the unit is in standby mode). I considered the bad power brd caps as a problem based on other posts but all of the previous posts mentioned a blinking red LED not a solid one. I have eyeballed the power brd and all the caps look fine. No bulging heads, no leaking fluid.

If the power brd is supposed to put out +5,+12 and +24 any time it is plugged in, then it is definitely broken.

If it uses a standby scheme where +5 is active but +12 and +24 are switched with a signal from the controller/signal board, then it may be working correctly.

My guess is that the signal board is bad but I would like a little more concrete evidence that it is bad. Can anyone explain / confirm my expectation for readings on the power board and signal board?

Specifically, does the power board only put out the +5VSB until it receives some sort of signal from the signal board?

What does the signal board power on signal consist of; Is it a pulse on a certain line or is it a +5 volt level on one of the lines?

I generally like to prove the board is bad before I go buying entire replacement parts.

I am not certain the power board is good because I don't know what outputs are supposed to be enabled at what time. I can only state the power board does not have any visually damaged caps.

Can someone also provide a link to FOX INTERNATIONAL incase I want to price out the replacement signal board? I did a google search and ended up with all sorts of unrelated hits.

Need to program remote for akai

Hello
You want to programme your Akai TV with a universal remote control; I assumes, and posts this solution.
Three digit universal remote codes for Akai TV are:
002/ 0030
Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand

I have a jumbo universal remote, how do I programit to an rca tv?

The Innovage Jumbo users manual lists over two dozen RCA TV remote codes. They are:

000, 003, 004, 005, 007, 009, 011, 015, 048, 082, 092, 094, 096, 098, 101, 102, 103, 107, 113, 125, 129, 167, 179, 187, 188, 191, & 194.

To program your remote by entering a code, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button for at least 3 seconds until the red LED lights up and stays lit.
  3. Press the TV button on the remote so that the LED blinks once and then remains solid red.
  4. Enter the first set of 3-digit codes from the list. The LED will blink once every keypress. After the 3rd digit, the red LED will turn off indicating that the code was recognized for the device. If the code was not compatible, the LED will flash several times and you need to return to step 2 to try that code again or to try the next code in the list.
  5. After the LED has turned off, aim the remote at the TV and press ON/OFF. If the device turns off, you have used the correct code and the remote was successfully programed. If the device does not power off, return to step 2 and try again with the next code in the list.
If you can't be bothered to enter each of those codes one at a time, you might consider the auto-search function.

To have the remote try each TV code it knows one at a time, follow these steps:
  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button for at least 3 seconds until the red LED lights up and stays lit.
  3. Press the TV button on the remote so that the LED blinks once and then remains solid red.
  4. Press the ON/OFF button slowly and repeatedly until the TV turns off. The LED will blink once each time you press the ON/OFF button.
  5. Once the TV turns off, press the ENTER button to store the code and the LED will turn off.
I hope that helps.
