You should not charge for problem resolution. So far I have used Delphi, Sony, Phillips, AT&T, HP, and many others. NOBODY has ever charged a fee on user questions about their product!!

You are the only consumer product help site that charges a fee to learn how to use your product. Rest assured I will tell everyone I come in contact with and post on line with every site that applies what a crummy way you run your customer service.

Garmin Street Pilot. No upgrades available from Garmin. Can it be updated some other way?

Hi Steve,

The Street Pilot line was one of the first automotive GPS devices from Garmin, and has got to be 8+ years old. Garmin contracts with Navteq for map software. At one point, Garmin needed to have Navteq compress their new maps so that they wouldn't need to increase the amount of memory in the GPS units and still be able to include all the way points, and new features such as junction view, traffic receivers, text to speech voices, etc. These new maps have an "NT" descriptor in the title. "NT "stands for "New Technology". Non-NT maps are no longer produced.

The new Garmin GPS hardware had to included the ability to decompress maps "on the fly" for display on the screen. As a result, the NT maps will not work in the older Garmin devices.

Your best bet is to either use the Street Pilot - knowing that the routes may no longer provide accurate information, or purchase a New, Refurbished or Used GPS. Garmin offers "Lifetime Maps" as an option for nearly all NT capable GPS units either as a subscription after GPS purchase, or "in the box" when buying a Garmin GPS. You'll get FREE map updates for that GPS up to 4 times per year. This assures you of always having the most recent maps available in your GPS. Look for a model that has "LM" in it (ie: nuvi 1490LM). If it has a "T" in the model name (ie: nuvi 1490T), it has Lifetime Traffic. If it is listed as "LMT" (nuvi 1490LMT) it has both Lifetime Maps and Lifetime Traffic.

I hope helps!

Brake pedal went out on me going about 65 on the highway, was able to pump enough to get it under control. Brake company said brakes and diaphragn were fine, needed new master cylinder. Brakes went out...

it sounds like you've got an issue with the engine vacume line going to the booster. there's an in line one way check valve that keeps vacume in the booster in case of a loss of vacume, like if your truck stalled while driving. but there should always be vacume with the engine running. so check the vacume line going to the brake booster for kinks obstructions, and leaks.

You have the "avoid freeways & major roads" option selected. this is in setup which is completely different from the shortest route option.

95 acura legend doesn't overheat on freeway, but does on surface streets. I had the radiotor flushed and changed the thermostat.

Check your cooling fan or the temperature relay.  The reason it doesn't overheat on the freeway is because there is sufficient airflow to cool the motor down without the need for the fan.
