(Assuming Windows XP)
Within your control panel, open system, click the hardware tab, click on Device Manager. Under Sound, Video, and Game controllers you should see your sound card and if there is a problem with it. Alternate-click and select properties. Select the driver tab. Select update driver and allow your pc to connect to Windows Update to locate the driver. If not found, post your sound card model and I will assist with locating the appropriate driver.

I formated my computer but the sound does not work, Ca you plese help me

You will need to download the sound card driver. If you have the driver discs which shipped with the PC, the driver should be located there.
If you don't have the discs you still have a few options.
go to the windows update site and search in the optional/ non-critical updates. Many times Microsoft will provide the drivers.
if that doesn't work you can go to the E-machines support page and search for drivers and downloads.
from there you will be prompted for the model and serial number of your PC.
you will then be presented with a list of available drivers.
select the sound card driver for your operating system

How to recover data from pen drive / memory card / hard disc /CD-ROM

Photorec is free way to recover lost data (formatted / corrupted) hard disks, CD-ROMs, memory cards (Compact Flash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital/SD, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, etc.), USB memory drives, DD raw image, EnCase E01 image, etc. It ignores the file system, this way it works even if the file system is severely damaged.
You can download it from here.

Someone gave me this pc and i cleaned it like a new hard drive.i lost sound, what sound card do i use and where do i download it from.thanks

my advise would be to try the update device driver, from the control panel.
Strip machine and get teh make and model number from the MotherBoard - then google for the drivers.

http://www.driverguide.com/ is a good place to start for the drivers.

Any PCI sound card will work. If you buy a used one make sure you know exactly what brand & model so you can get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

I have hooked up my "plug and play" speakers and still have no sound. My computer keeps telling me that a disc is required. Please advise

Your speakers may be "plug and play" but it seems the sound card is not. You will need to note the sound card make and model and download and install the driver from the manufacturer's web site.
