    only have one phone line connected. can receive calls okay. when we try to dial out we do get a dialtone, but the phone will not respond to phone numbers entries

  • kluehs Nov 07, 2008

    the interruption of power did not solve problem.touchpad appears to be okay. when phone is in hang up mode, the numeric buttons tone when pressing them. when you select the receiver or speaker, then the numeric buttons are silent when pressed. It's almost as if the unit was programmed to receive only.

    As far as I'm concerned this entire day listening to amateurs address my problem has been a joke. I spoke with a phone and told him what one guy said about a tone capacitor and his comment was "He said what??" Perhaps someone has a 800 number for a RCA tech that can fix this over the without discarding a $95 phone.

    Have already checked the phone line, other phones work fine.-

Hi,

Initially, I would suspect any of three components:

  • DTMF encoder/generator (Dual-tone multi-frequency} (most likely);
  • connector/cable loose connection or a cold solder in the printed backboard (a remote possibility);
  • touchpad/keypad itself (least likely and not all keys will not function).
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If the phone will not make dial tones when you pick up the handset but will make sounds when the phone is hung up then there is an electronic component problem , and it is most likely a transistor that detects if the switch is hung up or picked up( this is to engage or disengage the key pad , this not a normal function

It is most likely the phone cord ,change it... see if that helps it may be just a loose wire.

I would try another phone, this will eliminate the connector cord or and the wall jack as the source of the trouble, it may be the phone itself but the line problem is the 1st place to start to figure this issue out.

If the phone is working, but you cannot hear the tones, then it is probably a setting problem.

To see if this is a setting problem, try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, this should reset the phone.

If the phone does not work, then it is probably a lose or fauty numeric touchpad.

    outgoing call barring feature on the phone ? cellphone have that.

  • Frank Convert Oct 31, 2011

    I had the exact same problem as stated above. I was remodeling my home office, unplugged my phone and over the course of 2 days - the batteries died. I lost all my memory. I put in new batteries, reprogrammed date/time etc and everything worked accept the keypad. For a full day I could receive calls, speakerphone worked but the only way I could dial out was to use my cordless, dial the number and then switch back to the desktop once the phone began ringing. I knew the phone keypad was not broken because if I pressed the button under the Format Key called 'Dial' - the keypad would work but only when it was on the hook. I was so frustrated that I was about go buy a new phone however I tried one more thing. I unplugged my phone and removed my batteries for about 30 seconds and let the phone reset. I replugged everything back in and voila - it all started working as normal. Go figure but all it needed was resetting. Good luck.

It may not be registed with the main unit. You may need to register the handset. With my uniden all i have to do is put it in the main base until it says what handset it is (it should be a number).

Will not call out!!! 25204RE1

I just encountered this same problem on my phone. To resolve, you must hard reset the phone as follows: unplug power cord, unplug phone cord, remove all batteries. Leave disconnected in this state for at least 10 minutes. Now reconnect in following order: reinstalling batteries, reattach the phone cord followed by plugging in the power cord. This restores the phone to the original settings. You will lose items in memory, but the phone dial function should be restored. This was recommended by customer service and resolved my issue which sounds identical to yours. You can now proceed with resetting up your phone as desired.

Quickly, return this Phone is you still have a chance, my small business used this phone for EXACLY 2 years, and now all lines are DEAD, NOT A SINGLE ONE WORKING. LINE ONE AND THREE HAVE NO DIAL TONE EXCEPT EXTREMELY LOUD STATICS. AND LINE 2 AND 4 ARE TOTALLY MUTED.

A lot of my customers are complaining about not being able to reach me in my office.
