I can't remember if the 4 car powerbase checks for the presence of a controller in the socket before programming a car. Anyway, check by plugging a controller into every socket and trying every combination of car being programmed to every ID and also sit cars on both lanes for programming, to thoroughly check all combinations and possibilities. If you can rule out individual cars, controllers, or lanes of the track, then whatever is left (i.e. the powerbase itself) must be the problem, in which case contact retailer or Hornby Customer Care.
those having trouble utilizing a memory card, turn on the camera and
press right arrow key for 5 seconds until blue screen pops up. Press RC
button until screen shows a camera image on left and memory card image
on right titled "storage". Then press right arrow key to select memory
