Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

New igniter, still won't work

That was the oven. Now the broiler has gone out too. Connected somehow maybe?

I'm mechanical, shoot me the scoop how to test. Thanks!

    "Ignitor should begin to glow."

"Should"... that word again. Indeed it should, and if it did I'd be cookin'! (Or, roastin'.)

As stated, it's a new ignitor that tests good. Therefore I guess I'm looking for why there's no voltage. The lights do go on, so it's plugged in.

Look forward to another round with you, thanks.

Problem persists, but I had to flee the jurisdiction for a few weeks. ;-)

I posted this as the RGB745. The bake & broil ignitors are different, but that's not the problem. Neither one of them now works, and I have TWO new bake ignitors that test fine on a meter but neither one works. Obviously something else is wrong and so I'm still looking for a circuit diagram, preferably with hints for fixing.

So I remain in the state of HELP!

Turn on oven. Ignitor should begin to glow. (if no glow after 30 seconds or so, check to make sure you have 120 volts to ignitor) Observe amperage draw using a clamp on amp meter. When amperage reaches 3.2 to 3.6 (for square syle ignitors) the oven safety valve should open, releasing gas and lighting the burner when the gas hits the red hot ignitor. For broiler, just substitute the word broiler for oven. Old ignitors get " weak " and may not draw enough amperage to allow safety valve to open. Also, voltage will affect the amperage draw, as lower voltage = lower amp draw.

Have not heard back from you. Have you solved your problem? Don't know if you posted under your exact model number (many posters don't) but most self clean gas ranges use the same part number for the broil and bake ignitor. If your broiler works, you could try switching the ignitors and see if that fixes the oven. If it does, you'll obviously have to get a new ignitor for the broiler now or that won't work, nor will the self clean.

My stovetop works but my oven will not ignite.

Try this...open broiler door while initiating an oven start...look to the rear inside the broiler...there should be a reddish glow occuring...if not, then the ignitor may have gone bad...these are available from appliance parts stores or online

I recently bought a used Maytag gas range model #crg9700aaw. I am having an issue as the lower gas burner in the oven will not ignite. The broiler turns on and works fine, all the burners work fine as...

I had same problem, same model. Twice in 4 years. Was the lower ignitor gone bad. First time I assume to old age. 2nd time wife overloaded a roaster pan and it overflowed during cooking, and got liquid/**** on the ignitor somehow and killed it.
New one is $43 (http://www.repairclinic.com/Shop-For-Parts?s=t-crg9700-%3d%3d) online. More like $65-75 locally.
Tip: Upper (broiler) and lower ignitors are identical. For a quick test: Swap out the top one to bottom position and see if it works.
It has just today happened AGAIN to me 7 months later. Hence my being online for this.
It's an old horse, and 2 burners up top are acting funny for some time now. Rather than throw more good money into it I think I may trash it and just buy a new stove.

Broiler works oven doesn't heat

Based on your description, the igniter is dead.
The broiler and the oven heat each have their own igniter. Look for the characteristic glow when the oven is turned on. If it is not visible, then you will need to replace the "OVEN" igniter...
Google the stove model for repair parts and locate the igniter. Not too hard to replace... directions are packed with the new igniter...

I have a Whirlpool Gold oven model GW395LEGB5 that won't heat. The broiler works fine. Sometimes, after the broiler is lit, the oven will heat up. But no more. Just the broiler works. Is this...

If the broiler works fine, but the oven does not, more than likely this is caused by an igniter that has gone bad. The intermittent symptoms you were experiencing is a sign that the ingiter probably became weak due to age and finally failed. The following link explains how these igniters work and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

Since both oven manifolds are fed from the same gas source, this can be narrowed down to an igniter problem. Your oven should have the Norton type igniter. The part number for a replacement is 9782065 and can be found at appliancepartspros.com for about $71, You can search around if you like, but this was the cheapest I could find it.

Your oven has interchangeable igniters. Meaning the broil manifold and bake manifold use the same type of igniter. You can swap igniters while awaiting parts, if you wish to use the oven to bake.

NOTE: If the connector plug on the ingiter you receive does not match the receptacle in your stove, you will instructed to cut the leads and connect them together using ceramic wire lugs (included in the kit you receive). Do not attempt to use standard wire lugs as they will melt. The wires and ceramic lugs are heat resistant.

If you have any questions, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Broiler and oven igniter the same?

you may not need a igniter. the problem could be with your control board which supplies power to both the broil igniter and the oven igniter. In my years of working on ovens i have not seen a oven that needed both igniters replaced.
