Acer 5720 pc notebook, missing file \boot\memtest.exe? It also says that it is having problems connecting to a remote device. Hardware or software issue? And if I make a back up copy of my acer 5315 pc notebook, can i use that disc on the other laptop to attempt to fix the issue? (I don't have a back up for the other machine) Help Urgent! lol

Go to your cmos and check your boot priority. I really don't now why this crappy problem arises but i have a suspicion that, if your computer has been invaded or infected by a virus, this thing usually occurs. Check also your Anti-virus if it's updated, if not, try to go to safe mode and uninstall it then reboot your laptop and start at normal mode. If my analysis is correct, your cmos is not set properly. Good luck bro !!!!

Why my computer was unable to start

Hi
Does your pc have power or do you mean it has power but it wont boot up, this is a common problem and the cause is the boot up files have gone missing.

If you have the windows disk you can use the repair option to replace the missing boot up files by selecting the boot exe option.

This will replace the missing files so your hard drive can read them and (post) power on self test and boot up.

Cheers

These can all be cause my corrupt ram to tell if your ram is corrupt download

memtest from memtest86.com you want the bootable cd image file

burn this file onto a cd and then boot your computer from cd either setting
cd drive as first boot device in BIOS or hitting f12 as computer boots and in the quick boot menu selecting the cd drive

when the memtest program boots up start the memory test

if the test fails the corresponding ram module will need to be replaced

hopefully this helps
regards
djbr1ck
Acer m3400 keeps saying select boot device put in a new hard drive and thried to reinstall from a win 7 system builder disc no joy same error what have I missed?

First, new hard drive must show up in BIOS. Verify. Then try setting CD\DVD (optical drive) as 1st boot option. You should get "Press any key..." on the screen to set up Windows. There is a bigger problem if you can't get to this point.

Sounds like a thermal problem. If the PC shuts down unexpectedly, I would make sure the CPU cooling system is clean of dust especially the fan.

Does not sound like a hard drive problem.

Blue screen error acer desk top

hi friend the blue screen comes when there is a 1:hardware problem
2:virus problem
3:Installation Disk is corrupted
4:RAM problem

First, check your CD and clean or replace it as necessary. Your next step should be to test your system memory for errors with a diagnostic program.
To do this obtain the Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest memory diagnostic programs on floppy or CD we mentioned earlier, and use it to boot your system and test the memory. If either of these programs shows any errors in your memory, you have likely found the source of your troubles.
Chances are you will need to purchase new memory. For more information on faulty memory and memory diagnostics, see PCstats Guide to diagnosing bad memory .

Missing file: \windows\system32\winload.exe

Boot from your Operating System CD and do a Repair. This should solve your problem.
or
To fix this issue next time, boot Operating System, F8, select Command Prompt, type the following (anything inside the parens is a comment):
C: (assumes the C drive is the default)
CD Boot
Dir
(look to see if the BCD file is missing - it probably is.)
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
(Let the script run and it should rebuild the BCD and the issue should be resolved)

File missing

HI,

1. START> RUN > type CMD > now paste the following reg add
“HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon” /v Shell /t REG_SZ /d Explorer.exe

this procedure is to remove the error that comes whenever you restart windows
something like “could not find SSVICHOSST” or “error loading SSVICHOSST” or “windows cannot find ssvichost”
