Question about ASUS M2NPV-VM Motherboard

USB ports not working

Hi.. I have an ASUS M2NPV - VM based system with Athlon XPx2 5600+ processor and 2 Gb of RAM @ 800 Mhz + NVidia GeFeorce 8600 GT graphics card. It had been working fine for the past 1 year until I decided to open up and do a bit of self tinkering. I fiddled with the USB jumpers, and now none of the USB ports are working, even when I have set them back to the default position. Please do help, a PC without USB is just about useless.

thanx a lot Igorot, but it did not work. By the way, you asked me to disconnect the power chord before doing all this... was this just a precaution to protect me from electric shock or to save the motherboard from damage? Because while tinkering with the jumpers back then, I did not disconnect the power. Could that be the reason for permanent damage to my mainboard's USB ports? Please do help. Thakyou again.

Bro, go to the website of your motherboard manufacturer and download a screen shot of it then open your users manual and go to the motherboard overview. Observe the way all the jumpers has been connected and connect back all the jumpers that you have relocated to the way it is connected on the screen shot. ( by the way, disconnect the power cord before you do all of this ok?) Reboot your computer and check the USB detection on the Device manager. If it's detected then good but if not, uninstall it then reinstall it. I hope i was of help ! Good Day !!!

Asus m3n78-vm ram increase

Well, how much have you got? and are you running a 32 or 64 bit OS? For the Max ram you can fit to your mobo go to the ASUS site and look at the spec for your board. If you have a 32 bit os you cannot use more than 3.7 GB of ram, you can use as much RAM as you can afford or will fit if you have a 64bit OS.

M2NPV-VM - Fastest Compatible Processor?

Hello here is the cpu list:

http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=24&m=M2NPV-VM&os=&hashedid=HGTVnGv5nGahCYgK

I am glad to tell you that, the 945 cpu will fit your mainboard.
This is the fastes cpu, you can get for this mainboard.
Any other cpu that are not on the list, will not fit the mainboard ( it will not run )

But you probably have to upgrade the bios, to support the new cpu.

Make also sure the powersupply, is bigger than 300 watts.
I suggest a 500 watts.
You can also add more ram memory, for better performance.
Your mainboard supports:

4 x 240-pin DIMM, support max. 8GB DDR2 ram.
But a 32 bit system, only supports up to 3 gb.

Download also the manual here:

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=24&m=M2NPV-VM&os=&hashedid=HGTVnGv5nGahCYgK

By selecting your windows system.
Open the manual folder, and click on global for download.
Adobe reader, is needed to read content.

Hope this was helpfull.

M2NPV-VM - Fastest Processor?

If ASUS says that is the fastest that will work on the board, then they should know. Incidentally processors don't run at 95 volts although some run at a power consumption of 95 watts. Besides there is not a faster AM2 CPU than the one you mention.

The Computer sometimes boots and sometimes not. If not, there is no voltage at the USB ports and the keyboard does not a thing, but the drives, both on sata and ide (or whatever they are called), are...

Hi, you can download a manual and drivers here:

http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2NPVVM/#download

Please select your operating system.

Click on global for download.

The drivers needs to be unziped before installation.

Maybe your harddrive has a defect since it boots and sometimes don`t.

It could also be a virus.

Try to scan with these to programs:

Both programs are freeware.

Hope this will help you.

ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard Problemes

Good Motherboard...BTW... Reset BIOS to Factory defaults. Make sure you have the latest BIOS as well. Then you need to eliminate the other devices. Try running just on the On-Board Video...see if crashes. Run w 2 Gig Ram...same same... and of course the processor which may be impossible. Once you know it is MB or CPU... you make a choice which to buy or test. MB first... you can always return with less stress.

IS DDR SDRAM IS DDR II RAM OR DDR

No. DDR replaced the SD in RAM so SDRAM and DDR RAM are two completely different things but each ram type has its own frequency hence you get SDRAM 100(mhz) and SDRAM 133(Mhz) just like you get DDR 1 RAM at 266(mhz) and 400(mhz) and DDR 2 RAM at 533(mhz) and 800(mhz). Therefore as you can see how these things differ, but if your mboard takes SDRAM that it can take and frequency of SDRAM but you must ensure that all the frequencies of all your RAM modules in all your slots correspond otherwise you will have problems, meaning that if you decide to use 133mhz RAM then all your RAM modules that you use must be the same. Let me know how you go. thanks

Boot error / No video out

Ajit,

The beeps are usually due to RAM or key board issues.

I would try by plugging it into a VGA socket of a monitor to see if it works.

Do you have heat problems? one suggestion is to try and reset the bios to default by moving the jumper on the mobo to do a hard reset.

good luck

Smeags.

IDE ports in asus m2npv-vm & m2n-mx motherboards

hi, i have a couple of those boards. they have 2 ide ports on them and 4 serial ports. if youu do get the m2npv-vm, one thing that is weird about it, one faces up from the board and the other lays flat off the edge. also the ports are right next to each other and the polarity (which side you put the ribbon cable stripe on) is opposite each other. so if you don't use a keyed ribbon cable you might hook them up wrong.
