How do I fix a convergence problem for Ws-65909

Where are the fuses located or the ICs?

    Hi SD Tech,
One of the two fuses is open. I noticed 5 0r 6 ribbon cables going from this pcb to the adjacent pcb's. They look rather frail, and I tried gently lifting them to disconnect. Is there a tool for this...maybe something from Radio Shack?

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2012

best way to do that is explained in those instructions I have--very easy to damage the lift up connecters and the middle board needs to be removed to do the repair.

Give me a email address and I will send them---I am not phishing just will not post them here to be stolen by other experts here to use who do not know how to do the repair---that simple.

HI We are having the same convergence problem issues with the 65909, my husband is going to take a look in there. But pictures and some better instructions would really help us. Can you give us some step by step at [email protected] We would really appreciate it. We don't have any expertise in looking at TVs. Thanks, Debi

You have come to the right person:

all parts in this model for the convergence are located on middle board.

If set comes on and shuts off (green power light goes out) do the self check: press and hold (you may know or have done this) both the menu and input buttons for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Power light will blink a 2 digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and repeat it several times.

That is short protect and a 98% chance one or both (usually one) of the two pico fuses that protect the convergence circuit have blown.

I will add some photos here one of the single IC this set uses for this, one of the protect resistors in front and to one side of it, and one showing the pico fuses (ones for the chip are circled)

A note= I have fixed a lot of these and have composed instructions which are based on doing it---tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair from start to finish--step by step.

I will not post them here as other experts will copy them and I spent some real time composing them.

If you want they are free--provide me a email address and I will forward them to you for free.

I have fixed almost a thousand of these sets (Mitsubishi) with this problem.

Copy and save the photos and let me know (you can post a comment here) if you have questions or want the instructions.

SOURCE: Mitsu WS-65909 COMES ON AND TURN OFF IMMEDIATLY, ERROR CODE 2-2

Two blink code on this set means Usually one of the two pico fuses that protect the STK-393-110 CONVERGENCE IC is blown--the fuses will need to be tested and the chip and them replaced--

If you have enough skill I have step by step start to finish instructions for this repair in this set---set detects one of the voltages to the Chip is not there and shuts down instantly. I have photos of the chip, fuses and protect resistors this set uses also.

If you want the instructions for free give me a email and I will send them to you for free--if you are able to do this repair yourself you will save a lot of money--you can buy the chip on Ebay for about 14 dollars plus shipping and the same seller sells the pico fuses..............

If you want to attempt this give me a vote here--If you are not able to do it yourself I have suggestions for you about getting the set fixed--I have done hundreds of these sets!

Just reply to this post here.

Ws-65909 picture and sound are fuzzy, will a new power supply fix it???

It does not sound like a power supply problem. Most of the boards for this set are no longer available from Mitsubishi.

The most common problem these sets have is called convergence. Go into the customer menu with the Mitsubishi remote and select convergence--enter the "advanced" and look at the grid of lines (set will have on screen instructions for this) Let me know more exactly what your picture looks like.

Mitsubshi WS-65909Error code 2-2. i would like to know how to fix

The fuses are not the only problem--if 2,2 error code 95% of the time the Convergence IC that the WS-65909 uses is bad. It is a STK-393-110----fuses are on the same board and near the middle towards the back---they are green in color and look like resistors--if you have this model the location numbers marked on top of the board will be F9A04 and F9A05----both are 5 amp fuses (this will also be marked on the board) they are 2 of about 5 fuses and are towards the rear of the row of pico fuses.

If you check the fuses (just like any other fuse) and either is open--You need to remove the center board and replace the STK chip and the fuses-----not everyone can do this repair themselves--

I have had so many people ask me about this problem that I have composed step by step start to finish instructions for this repair--If you have some skill at soldering and think you can remove the board safely let me know and I will post the instructions here for you to read.

Other than the fuses there are about 12 light blue resistors in front of them that need to be checked--if any are discolored they need to be replaced also--they are all low value resistors--3.9 ohms--they will check like a fuse--no reading and or discolored and you need to replace them.

Considering the parts cost is usually under 20 dollars--I can also tell you the best place to buy the chip--you can if you can do the repair save a lot of money--most shops get 300-400 for this type of repair.

If you find the fuse or fuses bad---do not bypass or replace them--the only thing that gets them is the convergence chip.

If you have any questions or need advice let me know--I am here to help people.

TV picture curves

This is a convergence problem and is usually either bad connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Locate the convergence ICs (large black Ics attached to a heat sink and marked STKxxx). Resolder the pins first. If that fails to resolve the problem replace the ICs.

Keep us posted.

Mitsubishi ws-65909

I suspects you have bad convergance IC's

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
Don not run the tv till you have it fix you will cause more damage!

Convergence problems WS-55807

On this model if the fuses that protect the convergence circuit would open up, then the set would not come on. The convergence ICs probably have a cracked solder joint on the foil side of the circuit board.Re-flowing the the solder would help. I will always replace the convergence ICs when doing this job. The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. Hope this helps.
