Re: Toshiba A200 laptop
Can you still see a faint image if you look at the screen closely? If so, you just don't have backlight and you should check your inverter. he part is
available on common auction websites so you can try the repair yourself. There are also independent Laptop Repair places that will replace the inverter or check what else could be wrong Laptop Repair NYC.

Remove Laptop Battery
Remove Memory Cover
Spread spring clips to outside and
pull out RAM memory
Remove clear vinyl label opposite RAM memory slots
In the upper left corner you will see JOPEN1 with a white silkscreen square
Inside the square you will see what looks like the letter T over a U. Using a metal paper clip short the U to the Silver 1/4"post connecting the motherboard
to the laptop case and hold it for 25 -30 seconds. Place back your RAM memory, put in the laptop battery and test start laptop. you should see a selection of
F1 or F2 for setup. Using the F2 gets you into the Bios menu where you reset the time and date. Then Tab over to the SECURITY setting tab and change your passwords.
Then hit F10 key
Yes, theres a big possibility that the Start Button got shorted out since it happens when the laptop is on. I suggest calling the Customer Service of your laptop manufacturer or the Store where you bought it to see what you can do since this is a new Laptop and for warranty purposes.
Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using Fixya.
Try replacing the fan in it the reason a computer usally goes of is due to this. In the bios sometimes the fan gives a fail safe causing the laptop to go off. Couple of questions though did the laptop heat up alot in the past. If it did you might try buying another laptop mother board. If not this is a less costly adventure than replacing the motherboard.
Common problems are loose CD jack, dust on the memory pins, a bad battery. if you are sure the motherboard is bad you can buy one on ebay from a reputable seller and change it yourself (if you feel confident). alot of screws and many delicate cables. Make sure you get the exact model laptop , i usually try to buy the bottom half complete and just install the screen, these guys buy pallets of laptops from bestbuy, etc with broken screens and sell them as tested working with no screen on ebay or other wesites.
Does 1 download at a time always complete properly? And what do you
use to download the MP3 files? Internet Explorer? If so, one thing we
can do to try and isolate the problem is to try downloading with a
different browser. Firefox is free, you might install it and try your
downloads. If they then come in properly, we can then try to see if a
fix for IE is available. But if the problem persists, it may be an
issue with Vista, or even a problem with the machine/network connection
There is one other possible issue - some ISPs (Internet Service
Providers) are starting to filter for content, blocking or "delaying"
packets for certain applications or file types. Comcast and one or two
others have been in the news of late because of this. So, it is
possible that because they are MP3 files, or if you were using say
Limewire to download the files, this could be the case.
