If you can get into safe mode, i would recommend you to save all your files (just Word Documents, Excel and so on) and completely format your computer from scratch.

Like .. insert the Windows CD.. and select Install Windows... Option, (you know, all the wizard process like copying , installing, settings... all that stuff)

thats the easiest way to get your computer working trouble free.

Disable safe mode

Which operating system and do you have Norton antivirus ???
Turn Off Safe Mode

You rebooted your PC at least 10 times now, and still it refuses to start in anything other than Safe Mode.
Your many attempts to perform a system restore have yet to be victorious. It just will not boot up normally.
According to Microsoft, if you have Norton Antivirus 2001 installed on your computer, it is the root of the problem. Microsoft suggests you disable it.

Restart your computer. Let it load completely in Safe Mode.
Press "Run" on your Start menu.
Once you see the Open box, enter into the provided text box: misconfig.
Then press "Enter" or Select "OK."
Select on the new dialog box that has appeared "Selective Startup."
Select "NAVAP.VxD" on the Static VxD tab.
Remove the check in the check box you now see.
Select "OK."
Remove the check in the check box next to Norton Auto Protect.
Select "OK."
Reboot your system and it will be in Normal Mode.
Turn Off Safe Mode in Windows XP
The purpose of booting your computer in safe mode is to resolve issues.
Only your basic, most dire drivers and programs will run to block viruses and surreptitious software from executing on your system.
But once the issue is resolved, you need to get back to the standard Windows mode. In order to turn off safe mode in Windows XP, you must go through the same steps that you took to turn it on.

Reboot your Windows system.
Press the "F8" key several times as soon as you see the first Windows XP logo appear on your screen as the computer is booting.
This will bring up a black screen that displays the "Windows Advanced Options Menu."
Press the down arrow button on your keyboard to scroll down the list.
Select "Start Windows Normally" and then hit "Enter."
Allow the system to boot.
Enter your Windows XP user password (if you set one) and log in as usual.

it could be win32 virus which has wiped one of your files that starts pc you might have to do a full windows xp reinstall check youtube to find out how to install windows xp.....if you downloaded something recently you can do a system restore through safe mode.... restart the pc when the first screen comes up press F8 a few times it will then ask you to start in safe mode and a few other options try selecting the option (boot from last known good configuration) if that doesnt work then resart the pc again then press F8 again few times then safe mode options will come up again then select safe mode hit enter key then let the files load it will look different when it starts press start then all programmes then select accessories then select system tools then select system restore dont use the default time to restore select different restore time pick a date on the next screen click on it then click next the pc will restore the pc to when it was working properly of that date you select..it will restart itself if that doesnt work you might have to a full system recovery install windows i mean again you will find videos on youtube showing you how to install your version of windows warning it will delete all files on your pc and then reinstall windows it will be like a new pc....bonnell

Unable to open defragmentation because missing file MFC42u.dll

Restart in Safe Mode and perform the defragmentation in Safe Mode.
Starting your computer in Windows XP Safe Mode can help you diagnose and solve many serious problems, especially when starting normally is not possible/Just before the Windows XP splash screen shown above appears, press the F8 key to enter the Windows Advanced Options Menu.

Unfortuantley if you cannot get into safe mode, then windows is stuck ina loop, the easiest thing would be to reformat the machine and reinstall windows

Power failure, Windows XP was on, boots ok but now ultra slow.

Try running the performance & maintenance option under the control panel. First run a disk cleanup. When that has finished run the system defragmenter. When this is completed reboot and see if your problem is corrected. Hope this helps.

You almost certainly have a virus. If you can't even get into safe mode the easiest way to fix it is remove the hard drive and back up any files on it with a different computer, then re-install Windows on the original drive.

You can try booting from your Windows XP installation disk and using the recovery console there to repair your installation. That's not too hard and I would say works 30% of the time.

what you are describing is the blue screen of death, meaning theres a hardware or software problem, try to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, if that doesn't work use your XP cd, let it load the drivers and the ask it to fix the existing XP installation, anything that you have saved in my documents should be safe and the problem should be solved. If the blue screen reappears then you have a hardware problem

ok my friend as you said the operating system is not loading any more so that means we are having some corrupt files that makes the windows to fail while trying to boot up.

and since you cannot even log in to the computer even in safe mode that means you have only two options.

first is to try a repair (most of the computers use F12 key to get to the repair counsel).
second reinstalling windows.

so try the first one if it doesn't work then reinstalling windows will be the last thing to do.

if you need and further help please let me know

cheers
