D-Link DES-1008D 8-Port drivers

Drivers are not required, the device is a networking device and doesn't interact with the OS directly anyway.
What you might be looking for is the Web Interface that allows you to change settings, update firmware etc.
By default most are configured to either 19.168.0.1 / 10.0.0.1 / 10.1.1.1
Open your web browser, type one of those into the web address bar until you find the one that brings up the web page, from here you should be able to configure a few things.
If you are unsure click start > run > type: cmd > hit enter> a dos prompt appears, now type: tracert www.google.com
You will see IP addresses appear as the computer traces the path the packets are taking to reach google, what you are interested in is the first address that is in that list, that should be your switch ip address and all you have to do now, is type that address in your browser address bar. This should now bring up the configuration page for the switch.

Still unsure of the address, head to D-links website and find the support link and search for your model of switch, from here you can bring up the detailed users guide which will contain instructions on how to access the Web interface also.

Cannot get wireless service

Power on the laptop computer and wait for the operating system to boot.

Right-click the wireless Internet icon in the lower right corner of the desktop.

This brings up a new pull-down menu.

Select "View Available Wireless Networks."

This brings up a selection of different possible Internet connections that are in range of the computer.

Select the wireless Internet connection you want to use.

If a password is required, you need to type it in now.

Wait for the laptop to connect to the Internet.

In a moment the computer is going to state it has successfully connected to the Internet.

click Start, Run type in cmd and click Ok to bring up a command prompt.

Type ipconfig /all and press enter and see if it gives you an IP address similar to 192.168.1.100.

Check your wireless connection properties under My Network Places.

Right click the wireless connection icon and choose properties.

From there make sure Internet Protocol {TCP/IP} is listed, highlight it and click properties. Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is checked and Obtain DNS server address automatically is checked.

if still no joy

Let's first try to start the wireless service i.e. WLAN AutoConfig service manually. To do this, login to the computer as an administrator.
1. Click Start, type services.msc and hit enter.

2. Locate WLAN AutoConfig service, double click on it to open its properties window.

3. Under General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start button.

4. Click Apply and then ok.

For more information about the wireless settings, check this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb878035.aspx

hope this helps

How to check who is on your router

Open a web browser and connect to your router by typing in its URL. The basic URL set for many routers is either http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/. The URL for your router should be its IP address. If you are unsure what yours is, do the following: click "Start," then "Run." Type "Command" and then press "OK." In the DOS pop-up, type "ipconfig," and then press "Enter." This will give you a list of information about your internet connection; the IP address listed under "Default Gateway" should be the IP address for your router.

  • Enter your router user name and password to log into your router. Entering the router's IP address into a browser will bring up a pop-up requesting this information.
  • Search through the administrative tools and menus that your router offers, for a list or table of DHCP clients or of attached, connected, or active devices or computers. Different routers have different administrative options, so menu labeling will vary, but there should be a place to find a list of devices and IP addresses currently using the network. For example, users of the popular Linksys WRT54GL router can click "Status," then on the "Local Network" sub menu, and finally click on "DHCP Clients table" to bring up a list of attached devices.

I was told that in order to access my router configuration web page i would have to type 'http://192.168.21/' as the url address.so i tried this and its sending me to a totally different page then...

    Good Day,

Please try doing this simple step to obtain the correct default gateway of your router.

    1) click start then click programs then click accessories then right click on the command prompt then click on the run as administrator.

    2) on the command prompt screen type IPCONFIG then hit enter on the keyboard. then look for the default gateway on the list. then copy that IP ADDRESS and type it in the address of your browser.

    3) for the IP ADDRESS that you post it seems that it's missing a dot. it should be 192.168.2.1 try this.

    GOOD LUCK.

    Port Forwarding

    A. Determining the IP Address and MAC Address of a Computer:

Note: Please use the computer for which the Ports are to be opened:

    For Windows 2000/XP users:

    1. Please click on Start and select Run.
    2. Type in cmd and click on OK.
    3. In the Command Prompt, please type ipconfig/all then press Enter or Return key.
    4. Please make sure that the Ethernet adapter has an IP Address that is the same range as the router (e.g. 192.168.1.2 for the computer and 192.168.1.1 for the router).
    5. Please note down the IP address and Physical address.

    B. Reserving an IP Address:

    1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
    2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
    3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

    4. When the setup page opens, click on LAN IP Setup under Advanced tab.
    5. Click on Add under Address Reservation.
    6. Under Address Reservation window, please select the radio button of the computer you wish to add from the Address Reservation Table.
    7. If the computer you want is not on the list, please click on the Refresh button to update the table.
    8. If the computer is still not on the Address Reservation Table, please type in the IP Address, MAC Address (Physical Address), and Device Name of the computer you wish to add.
    9. Click the Add button when done.

    C. Opening Pre-Defined Ports for Internet Services:

    1. Click on the option with the name Port Forwarding/Port Triggering under the Advanced menu.
    2. Please select the service type Port Forwarding. The router pre-defined services are listed there.
    3. From the Service Name pull down list, select the service that needs to be hosted.
    4. Enter the IP address of the computer in the Server IP Address box.
    5. Click the Add or Apply button.
    6. Repeat all steps to open more ports.

Note: If the name of the Internet service does not appear in the drop down list, you may manually open the ports for that Internet service. Please follow the steps below:

    D. Opening Ports for Games, Applications or Custom Ports:

    1. Click on Add Custom Service button.
    2. Type the service name in the Service Name box and the lower range numbers in the Starting Port box.
    3. If the application uses only a single port; type in the same port number in the Ending Port box.
    4. If the application uses a range of ports; type in the higher range numbers in the Ending Port box.
    5. Type the IP address of the computer in the Server IP Address box. Click Apply button.
    6. It will then refresh to the Port Forwarding page, and will show the list of all ports opened in tabulation.
    7. Repeat all steps to add more ports for more services.

    E. To Edit or Delete a Service Entry:

    1. Click on the Radio Button that needs to be Edited /Deleted, under the Port Forwarding page.
    2. Modify the information from the Service Name, Starting Port, Ending Port, and the Server IP Address, and then click the Apply button.

    Need to reconfig router

Of course, if you just want to reset to the factory settings and start from there, look on the back of the router for a little button to depress. Hold that in for 10 seconds while powered on. When it reboots itself, it will have the original factory configurations and you can enter any settings desired.

Unable to connect to internet when coonnected to VPN

What are you using for VPN? If you are using PPTP, it's probably due to split tunneling enabled. Goto Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click on VPN Network Adapter, then click Properties > then click Networking tab > select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click properties > click Advanced button and uncheck Use Default gateway on remote network.
    Hope this helps.
