I have a homelite 330 chain saw. The last time I used it, while cutting a log, it revved up full throttle on it's own and then cut off. I was able to start it again but it immediately did the same

The chain saw is a Homelite 330 and has never given me any trouble since purchased after hurrican hugo in 1989.

SOURCE: Carburator adjustment for Homelite xl 12 chain saw

Turn both screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out each CCW 1-1/2 turns. This should get the engine running if it will. If it does not, check the lower diaphragm on the carburetor for hardness or cracking. You appear to be running on prime only--the carburetor doesn't seem to be pumping in fresh fuel. You may need to do a carburetor clean and re-kit. Check the fuel line condition and the fuel filter in the tank for plugging. Make sure the muffler and air cleaner are not plugged. Once you get the engine to continue running, warm the engine up. Open the throttle and adjust the H needle CW--the engine should start to speed up, but still 4-stroking. The proper setting is 4-stroking, but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW so that the engine runs fairly smoothly, yet will allow the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: why will homelite 290 chainsaw not start?

Make sure you have blue, snappy spark at the plug (set at 0.020"). If ok, put some fuel mix in the plug hole and try to start--it should pop several times. If pops, then check the fuel system. Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetors for theory and troubleshooting. Be sure to check the placement of the gasket in the lower chamber. Hope this helps!

New Homelite. Cut great for an hour, then the chain wouldn't grip or cut. Chain was loose so I tightened but still doesn't cut- just

The blade is no longer sharp, something not unusual after about an hour of cutting. How long a blade stays sharp depends on what type of wood you're cutting, whether the blade contacted the ground or anything other than wood at any time, and how hard you are working the bar through the wood. If you are cutting hardwood or something like railroad ties the lifespan of the blade is greatly reduced. You can easily sharpen the blade with a hand file or dremel tool with a chain saw blade kit on it or have the blade sharpened. Best practice is to have one or two extra blades so you can change them as they become dull.

Generally this is a fuel / air ratio problem. Usually it can be solved by a carb adjustment. On the carb there are usually two screws, one marked low or L , the other marked high or H. Low is your adjustment for idle mixture, high is for mixture at full throttle. The saw should Always be adjusted to run well during the cut. Make adjustments a little at a time, then try The saw. Continue small adjustments untill the saw is performing well at full throttle while Cutting.

Cs 400, first time cutting great, then the saw did not cut perfectly. Recently it worked poorly. When I push the saw a little bit hard against the log, the saw did not running(the engine is working)

suggest you sharpen the chain, sounds like it's dull like maybe the log you cut had been fallen on ground for awhile, this causes dirt build up in bark and acts just like cutting Dirt and we all know what that does to your chain...dulls it fast ! I learned from experience I cut an oak tree that was cut down for about 2 years when I got permission to cut it up,needless to say it had a lot of dirt in the bark! hope this helps you !

You don't get it people, no MATTER WHAT I DO, the chain keeps coming off the cheap electric chain saw. Both Homelite and Remington share the same problem. These DO NOT WORK! I haven't gotten more than 2...

Quit doing what you are doing before you cut yourself. The cut could kill or cost $10,000 just to live with an ugly scar. You chain is not staying adjusted correctly.
My Homelite does NOT do this. But my neighbors Poulan did. It thrashed the chain against the spike and threw it completely off. The adjustor didn't work right and an attempt to bolt it tight also failed. So I ordered the spike and the whole cover/brake handle/chain adjustor kit for it. Should get here from Sears in a week for under $40 USD.

Hi how to tune homelite 330 chain saw carby, idle

Before adjusting anything, check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Tighten all carburetor fasteners. Make sure you have fresh fuel mix in the tank. Does the primer bulb pull fresh fuel into itself when pumped? Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting and should allow the engine to start and run. Start the engine and allow it to warm up, then pull the throttle full on. Adjust H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-stroking. Proper final adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes unloaded, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW for fairly good idle, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine will continue to run. Hope this helps!

You should have taken advantage of the warranty when you first noticed the problem. Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for an excellent 12 page article on Walbro carburetors--theory and troubleshooting. Note carefully, the caution about the lower chamber gasket and diaphragm positions. Hot running engines imply very lean fuel conditions. Hopefully, you haven't damaged the inner cylinder liner/piston/rings due to excess heat and lack of lubrication. At 50:1 fuel ratio, there isn't much lubrication to spare. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight and no plugging of the fuel filter. The head and cylinder are one casting--no head gasket. Try turning both jet screws CW to the stops (lightly), then back out each CCW 1-1/2 turns. This is a basic setting and the engine should start and run. Allow to warm up, then pull the throttle full on--adjust H needle CW until the engine speeds up, but continues to 4-stroke. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This produces the most power and least heat. Allow to idle and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, but allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust the idle speed screw to stop the chain from turning, but keeps the engine running. Hope this helps!

Chainsaw dont run right

carb adjustment,hi circuit, bring it to max rpms then richen hi idle side til saw loses a small amount of rpm. This and a tad richer mix ratio will ensure a longer saw life.Use itasca as a chain oiler, never motor oil.

Cutting crooked

The chain is not sharpened evenly. One side is cutting faster than the other. Also check to be sure that the bar itself is not worn excessively on one side. The cheapest way to test this is to change the chain.
