How do I format a Sandisk Cruzer for Macintosh and get rid of the U3 System? Thank you, Fred Wagner

I did exactly as you recommended, but it only partitions the part of the Cruzer that was available in the first place. The U3 System was still there. I understand that the Cruzer has software on it that can only be read by a PC and with that software you can delete the U3 System and then reformat the Cruzer on a Mac. Then you should be able to use the entire Cruzer without the U3 System coming up all the time. I will try this as soon as I can get near a PC.

You can't fully erase that device until you modify the partition info.
If you will be only using this flash drive on a Mac - open Disk Utility, click on the flash device (not the partition, but the manufacturers info line), and click on the partition tab. Click on the dropdown under Volume Scheme, and choose 1 partition, then click the partition button. Mac OS Extended should be the default, and that will be OK.
If you will be installing some other operating system, such as a Linux distro, then you'll need some support for that, with the correct type of partition.
Mac OS Extended will be good if you will only use on the Mac.
You won't likely get OS X to install on a USB flash drive. You'll need a windows PC to uninstall the u3

My sandisk cruzer 4 GB pendrive ws working fine but now whenever i try to format\copy\cut it shows location 0 with used space 0 free space 0 what should i do

Your flashdrive usually shows 2 drives when inserted to your computer, one is the U3 drive and the other one is the removable disk drives. U3 drive is your separate partition for the U3 system and in order for you to store, copy, format your flashdrive, you should be selecting the removable disk drive, not the U3 drive. U3 is a read only memory drive that is responsible for your U3 to work (just like portable applications). Hope this helps.

This feature is called the U3 system, it can be removed following these instructions directly from sandisk: http://u3.sandisk.com/launchpadremoval.htm This will erase everything on your device, make sure to back up your flash drive first.

Flash drive has a DVD ghost

It is "working as designed" for a 'U3' device.

A 'U3' device is _more_ than just an "ordinary" flash-drive.

You can install software onto a 'U3' device, i.e., a copy of Microsoft Office, and then you can take your data files _and_ your copy of the software _with_ you, and connect to any computer, and access your software and your files.

Sandisk u3 cruzer micro usb device 16gb is not getting installed

My dear! first install software only without attaching USB when your USB required the software or driver then attach it or if your software does not required USB attach during installation, you have to attach it after the installing software. May it require reboot your system. Now your USB sandisk u3 cruzer micro device will work.
thank you

Corrupted files on cruzer micro 4gb

Due to the U3 technology, i.e. the files you deleted which were on the drive when you got them, you may have caused the drive to malfunction because the U3 software was not uninstalled, but rather deleted.

Please attempt to reinstall the U3 software on the Sandisk website, named "U3 Launchpad Installer"
which can be found at this link: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

If you are still having problems, either reinstalling the software or with corrupt files, please report any errors exactly as you see them.
