I am the person you had the chat session with. I have no idea why the chat ended. I can help you thru this posting if you wish to continue.

I had mentioned in the chat that you needed to take the top off the unit, and you said you did that but did not know what to do next.

You need to locate the CD mech, the part that picks up the disc and spins it, and then plays it. That part has a clamp on it, it should be in the back middle of the unit. It has a part inside of it that is called the laser pick up. That laser pick up has a lens on it. You need to clean that lens. The lens on it is small and round and looks like a piece of glass. Use a Q-tip and and put a small amount of windex or rubbing alcohol on the Q-tip, just enough to make it moist. Then just use that to clean the lens of the pick up by putting the Q-tip on the lens and moving in a circular motion until you see that the lens is clean. It should never take more than about 5 or 6 circular swipes on the small lens to clean it. Then after you have done that, wait just a couple of minutes and try to play a disc again. If the disc start to play you are done and cann put the top back on again. If it does not play, let me know what it does and I may be able to help you further. But in most cases, if cleaning the lens doesn't help, then you need it serviced by a technician. There are no other secret fixes that make them work besides cleaning the lens, that the user can do. Any further service it may need will require some electronic troubleshooting skills and the proper tools to do that.

Power failed in middle of a recording session when the machine was in Pause mode. How can I recover the recorded file?

You can try computer software like Nero or Roxio and finalize the disc as it is. This is exactly why I had advised Churches that went from reliable cassette tapes to CDR to put UPS units on the CD recorders as they do not react too well to power outages. If you were using an Open Reel there would be very little loss of the recorded signal.

Toc error 14

On questions like this it would help if we knew the manual was or was not consulted.

And if it was NOT, why.

C14 / TOC Error The unit did not read the TOC information. Insert other discs.

http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq02.html#S2-19

[Extract]

"If you write data to a disc and leave the session open, the TOC -- which tells the CD player or CD-ROM drive where the tracks are -- is written into a separate area called the Program Memory Area, or PMA. CD recorders are the only devices that know to look at the PMA, which is why you can't see data in an open session on a standard playback device. CD players won't find any audio tracks, and CD-ROM drives won't see a data track. When the session is finalized, the TOC is written in the lead-in area, enabling other devices to recognize the disc.
(Something to try: write an audio track to a blank CD, and leave the session open. Put the disc in a CD player. Some players will deny the existence of the disc, some will spin the disc up to an incredible speed and won't even brake the spindle when you eject the disc, others will perform equally random acts. The TOC is important!)"

Cd-rw880 door will not open

Dear Tamesu.

You just gave me a very bad feedback just for stating that I was a technician.

If the disk tray does not open, disconnect power cord. Connect back the cord, turn on and click repeatedly on the eject button while unit is starting.

If that does not work, you need to take apart the unit. TEACs of this series are disassembled taking all the screws from botton, releasing the front panel, which is held by more screws and clips, and sometimes you have also to remove sides and back. I have the disassembly diagrams for most of them.

I usually do not answer the chats. They may take an awful long long time. If I answer, that means that I think I can help.

Hope to find a good expert and stick with him/her. Best experts rarely answer chats in here.

Good luck with your problem.

Ginko.

Yes, your expert told me there was no fix and to return it to the manufacturer, which I did. I don't believe I would now try your premium assistance program after that first session which did nothing for me.

CD-RW880 records only 10-15 minutes then stops

Hi i would say try other cd recordable media but it sounds like your player has a tracking/laser pick-up problem or a laser mechanism fault,i would suggest you take it to the nearest repair agent to get them to look at it for you. regards. paul.
