Question about Mac Desktops

IMac clarification Hi Krabby, I hope this info. helps as I no longer have the paperwork on the computer. What I indicated was an 18 month old computer is really 3 years old purchased in 09 2005 (time flies). Checked with the repair shop and was told it was a G5 iMac w/ Mac OS X v10.4. Thank you, OldMa

Thanks so much, Krabby. The money breakdown is as follows: $29.50 US for diagnosis, $90 US for labor, $180 for the power supply. Guess I can't do anything about the cost of the repair now, but I appreciate your information. Maybe Guest can use it as well. :)

Okay, you probably need a new power supply, this unit had many power supply and logic board problems.  300.00 is a lot for a power supply, 120.00 is the usual cost plus 50.00 labour, and that is canadian dollars, it should be much cheaper if you are in the U.S.

It should not affect the data on the hard drive but with all repairs such as this it always worth making sure you have your hard drive backed up. I had a similar problem with a imac a couple of years ago and the hard drive was fine when it came back. Hope this helps.

New imac 24inch screen does not start

Hi there,

If you have re-installed the RAM without any luck, it looks like you have to take trip to your closest Apple Repairer. It could be any number of problems. Video card, display, logic board. Only when it has been diagnosed will it be known. If the computer is less than 10 days old you can ask for a new one. Yours would be classed as DOA. If not, standard warranty it 12 months from the Invoice date.

Hope this helps

White vertical line going through my IMAC screen

The line is an indication that there is a failure in the display, most times the failure will be limited to the line you see but occasionally the problem will spread, causing more lines. the only way to fix it is to have the display replaced.

Next time for any older model Apple portables including the MacMINI that no longer has its AppleCare has major issues and need to be fixed, and you have a small knowledge of how to follow instructions and use a screw driver then you should go to ifixit.com. They have the part that you would need and as a bonus to you when you order from them is they send you the how to remove old and replace with new. Step by Step with precise information and so you don't get totally lost in type there is an image to each step. The person who made that site sure did do a great and helpful job. And the instructions to do any of the jobs that is needed is given to all for FREE. You don't need to buy anything from them or give them any info for the free info. ((this is for anyone that might think i am punting for them-which i am-and they don't know i am)) < and i don't get squat from em but the same information you get >

It may be possible that the power supply, display and or logicbpard may be having issues. Apple recommends resetting the pram and nvram. If issue persists reset SMU. YOur machine is 6 months outside of the original warranty, but if you purchased the 3 year extension plan, you may want to take action on it.
