IMac clarification Hi Krabby, I hope this info. helps as I no longer have the paperwork on the computer. What I indicated was an 18 month old computer is really 3 years old purchased in 09 2005 (time flies). Checked with the repair shop and was told it was a G5 iMac w/ Mac OS X v10.4. Thank you, OldMa

Thanks so much, Krabby. The money breakdown is as follows: $29.50 US for diagnosis, $90 US for labor, $180 for the power supply. Guess I can't do anything about the cost of the repair now, but I appreciate your information. Maybe Guest can use it as well. :)

Okay, you probably need a new power supply, this unit had many power supply and logic board problems.  300.00 is a lot for a power supply, 120.00 is the usual cost plus 50.00 labour, and that is canadian dollars, it should be much cheaper if you are in the U.S.

Hi.. I purchased a demo car from Subaru in WA. There was supposed to be an initial 6 months no payment with their finance. I Confirmed this with them upon sign up. This didnt happen. I purchased due to...

If your signed paperwork clearly shows that you are being charged differently than the paperwork states, tell the dealer that either they fix it or they can take the car back. You may have to seek legal redress to get this fixed. If your paperwork does not show it clearly then you might have a problem getting them to fix it as they might dig in their heels and say you just did not read what you signed. Unfortunately, just because you "thought" you were getting six months of no payments means nothing if your paperwork does not indicate that. They might very well say you bought a demo and only new products qualified for that promotion. Good luck.

Hi Helen,

If your Speedi is under 2 years old please return to your retailer with proof of purchase paperwork to discuss with them the terms and conditions of the 24 month chassis warranty and getting the chassis sent to our engineers for full inspection/repair work required.

If the Speedi is over 2 years old or you no longer have proof of purchase paperwork please contact our customer service department on 01284 413 141 Mon-Fri 8.30-4.30 to discuss costs of the item required.

Sorry Margaret, but I think you've come to the wrong place.

To complain to Packard Bell you'd have to go to their website:-

Start here:-

Then you need to follow support for support and/contact us to vent your spleen.

This is just an advice website, where, you can post a problem and someone tries to help you fix it your self.

I've always thought Packard Bell a good company, but £163/$163 is lot of money for a computer repair, unless the motherboard failed.

I'm pretty lucky, knowing a bit I can usually fix mine cheaply, but I do have a DELL which must be about 10 years old which has just died a death, being used for spares now. I also have an Amiga which must be 20 years old now.

The trouble with Dell, I believe like Packard Bell, is that they use proprietary parts, which can only be replaced by them and usually expensive.

Next time go for a generic computer, the parts manufacturers are usually the same, but they're used in loads of different make computers making spares cheaper.

Hope this helps a bit.

New imac 24inch screen does not start

Hi there,

If you have re-installed the RAM without any luck, it looks like you have to take trip to your closest Apple Repairer. It could be any number of problems. Video card, display, logic board. Only when it has been diagnosed will it be known. If the computer is less than 10 days old you can ask for a new one. Yours would be classed as DOA. If not, standard warranty it 12 months from the Invoice date.

Hope this helps

White vertical line going through my IMAC screen

The line is an indication that there is a failure in the display, most times the failure will be limited to the line you see but occasionally the problem will spread, causing more lines. the only way to fix it is to have the display replaced.

Clarification request

Next time for any older model Apple portables including the MacMINI that no longer has its AppleCare has major issues and need to be fixed, and you have a small knowledge of how to follow instructions and use a screw driver then you should go to They have the part that you would need and as a bonus to you when you order from them is they send you the how to remove old and replace with new. Step by Step with precise information and so you don't get totally lost in type there is an image to each step. The person who made that site sure did do a great and helpful job. And the instructions to do any of the jobs that is needed is given to all for FREE. You don't need to buy anything from them or give them any info for the free info. ((this is for anyone that might think i am punting for them-which i am-and they don't know i am)) < and i don't get squat from em but the same information you get >

Screen Changes and Comupter freezes

It may be possible that the power supply, display and or logicbpard may be having issues. Apple recommends resetting the pram and nvram. If issue persists reset SMU. YOur machine is 6 months outside of the original warranty, but if you purchased the 3 year extension plan, you may want to take action on it.

Keep me posted.
