Hi In some cases, a faulty thermostat may not be the cause of a warm refrigerator or freezer. A warm box may also be caused by a defective fan, a blocked fan, or broken or bent fan blades. If the blades are jammed, try to free them. If they're bent, straighten them with pliers. If this doesn't solve the problem, call a professional service person.

On some refrigerators, the door switch operates the evaporator fan. If the fan seems to be malfunctioning, the door switch could be faulty. Test the switch as detailed in the last page, and replace it if necessary.

Why does my refrigerator keep acting up the freezer gets frosted up then the frig gets warm I have cleaned it underneath unplugged it for 24 hours then plugged it back in it works great for about a w

This problem can have many causes, but generally it is a defrost issue. If the freezer coils are frozen over, they block cold air flow to the refrigerator; and can be caused by different part failures. See the link below for a good explanation of possible failures and for parts. Also, if you turn the refrigerator temp to 0ff and unplug the refrigerator then plug it back in, it should go into defrost mode. Leave it that way for 15 or 20 minutes, then unplug and plug it back in. It may resolve the defrost mode problem. If not you'll need a part, or repair man. Fridge is cold, freezer is not

Please look into the freezer for frost build-up on the rear wall. If you are having a defrost problem it may limit the freezer temperature and still be cold enough for the fresh food section to remain at safe temperatures but not for long before freezer and fresh food section warms because frost blocks airflow and the evaporator is unable to keep everything cold because of frost build-up. I don't have your model number so I will list the parts that may need to be replaced. The defrost control=> 12002754 Frost Kit, defrost thermostat and 67002493 Defrost Heater Assembly

For testing of the defrost thermosat and defrost heater refer to the same page as the parts, If these parts are good the the 12002754 Frost Kit, could be defective. The 12002754 Frost Kit,
can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Let me know if you have questions and also if you are not having a defrost problem, Thanks Sea Breeze

Neither the fridge or freezer side is working? what is the 1st thing to check the compressor sounds like it's running- could the defrost be stuck on or the mother board be bad?

Sure the first thing is to look inside the freezer and see if perhaps it is a defrost problem. That most times shows up as warming of the fresh food compartment and a layer of frost or ice layering the walls of the freezer with just near freezing temperatures. Most times people hear what they may think is the compressor running so I recommend that you pull away from wall and unplug, remove cover over compressor and feel top of compressor to insure that it has been running. If warm on top of compressor that will be OK but if cool or too hot to keep hand there we need to find out just what is going on. Most importantly you need to find Brand Name and Model Number=> Locating Model and or Serial Number GE has a way of locating models=> HERE

My refrigerator side is not maintaining a cool temperature, and the green temperature light is off (the freezer side works fine)

the problem is in the freezer side, all it does is blow clod air from the freezer to the fridge side so if the fridge is warm the freezer side is either iced up or the fan isn't blowing, open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad evap fan motor, also check the back inside wall of the freezer, you might have to pull the second from the bottom bin out and touch the wall and see if it's iced up or if there's frost on it,if so you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find and send the model number ,open the fridge door,on the right side up near the ceiling you'll see a tag with the model and serial number,i just need the model number and i'll be glad to help you

you said a lot . the frost in the freezer back would let know that you have a defrost problem . no frost means no frost . so the heater or the terminator have failed . the unit needs to be defrosted of ice and the heater cked and if bad replaced and always replace the terminator . orthe cause is the a d c adapitive defrost control . ,, mm

Freezer works and refrig. does not. what can i try?

Hi: There is an off chance your freezer is so full of food you blocked the vents. Otherwise your defrost heater or timer is bad. I tried to find the model online but you left out the first three digits. That is the source code (who built it for kenmore) It's frigidaire but I don't remember the code( I tried 256). Anyway, The defrost heater will be below the evaporator coils in the freezer. Look for access. Or get the schematics from sears.com or let me know the source code and model number again. If you don't have any back up refrigeration, take a hair dryer to the back of the freezer compartment and melt the frost that accumulated back there. This will buy you one to two weeks before it frosts up again. The freezer is supposed to be frost free; since it dosn't work the frost is blocking the airways to the fresh food compartment. That is why it's warm. I hope this helps, Jeff

Bottom of refrigerator is not cooling

Hi: Is your freezer so full it's blocking the vents? If so unblock the vents. If not put your food in a cooler, frozen and fresh. Unplug your refrigerator. Take a hair dryer to the back of the freezer to melt frost accumulated behind the panel. I know it's supposed to be frost free. You have a problem with the defrost heater or the timer. The frost is blocking the vents. Most likely it is the later, but if you see no frost it could be the circulating fan. The location of these will be in your parts list. Kenmore still gives these with their products. If you don't have it go to sears.com and use parts direct. They will have a diagram. I hope this helps, Jeff By the way, If you are not handy just do the hair dryer thing and it will work for a weed or two until the frost plugs it up again.
