Question about Akai PDP4294 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television
For the second time, my tv has "quit" while on and I was not able to restart it at that time. I contacted FIXYA after the first time. I "blew out" the back of my TV on both occassions, waited about 5 hours and my TV would work again. They indicated that the problem may be with the heatsink. I live in rural Costa Rica. There is a repair shop for TVs in a neighboring community. I need to know what part I need to order to replace the "heatsink for this TV so I can have one here if the problem happens again and I can't get the TV going again. By the way, this is the rain forest and it is quite humid. There was a one month interval between the first episode of quitting and this one. Thank you.
Cleaning out the guts of a plasma TV is beneficial if temporary. Accumulations of dust that tends to hold moisture are not good for any device that uses higher voltages.
A heatsink is not a working part, it is a device to dissipate hate caused by and active component such as a transistor or high powered diode or integrated circuit. They are generally made of extruded aluminum and can be of about any shape as long as there is radiating surface available.
Your climate is not an easy one for many different kinds of electronics and it may be necessary to position a fan behind your set if it is consistently running too hot. There isn't much else you can do if it is a heat related problem.
