Frigidaire is freezing everything

I've already had this lousy fridge fixed once costing me 160.00 Dollars and the same thing is wrong with it again 6 months later and now my food is freezing inside the refrigerator. Is there a permanent fix for this ice box or a recall to fix what keeps going out on it? I have the same problem. My modle # frs26r4cb5 will the factory fix, 5303918283 fit my frig?

Hi The limit switch is found only on frost-free refrigerators and freezers. Its function is to keep the defrost heating element from exceeding certain set temperatures. If a refrigerator has lots of frost in the freezer compartment, the problem may be the limit switch. However, other components -- the evaporator fan, the defrost timer, and the defrost heater -- can cause the same problem. Check these for malfunctions, as detailed below. If these parts are in working condition, the problem is most likely in the limit switch. Don't try to fix the limit switch yourself; call a professional service person for replacement. This component is a heating element located on the evaporator coil. When the refrigerator or freezer switches to the defrost cycle, the defrost heater is turned on to melt the frost in the compartment. Failure of the defrost heater causes failure to defrost.

Test the element with a VOM set to the RX1 scale. To gain access to the heating element, remove the compartment's wall panels. Clip one probe of the VOM to each element terminal. The meter should read between 5 and 20 ohms. If it doesn't, the heating element is faulty and should be replaced. Replace the heater with a new one of the same type and electrical rating. Connect the new heater the same way the old one was connected.

U need to make sure that the light is going off when the door is in the closed position. Find the switch that the door makes contact with when it closes. If the light is not going out then the  heat from the light being on could cause such a problem. Refrigerators have either a mechanical defrost timer, or an ADC (Adaptive Defrost Control). If your refrigerator has a mechanical timer, set the cold control to the coldest setting and then advance the defrost timer. You can manually advance the timer with a screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the advancement pinion and turn clockwise a 1/4 to 3/8’s of a turn. If the compressor starts, replace the defrost timer. For further help, you’ll want to call a professional appliance repair technician.

You can use a condenser coil brush to clean the coils periodically. Because the coils exchange heat, any dust, lint, or dirt on them cuts down its ability to exchange heat. You can buy a brush or any needed refrigerator part online here:

Try first defrosting overnight and moving the fridge away from the wall to leave some airy space.

There can be several reasons for the fridge freezing inside, and they are not all necessarily faults.

If the thermostat is set to too high settings and there is ice inside the fridge, it will produce more ice. To fix this you defrost the fridge overnight and then lower down thermostat settings.

If there is not enough airy space at the back of the fridge, the coils will start overheating, the condenser wont be able to do is job efficently anymore, put the compressor under stress, and the fridge start icing.

IIf the thermostat is faulty the fridge will freeze inside. The thermostat is located behind one of the walls inside the fridge and can be tested with a multimeter.

clean out all the vents, syringe the drain holes with clorine bleach, check the door seals for air tightness all round...after a full defrost(do not help it with a hairdryer as this only defrost the ice you can see....try to defrost it when you can leave it for 24/36 hours....with the doors open and switched off....then dry thoroughly.

Kitchen aid KSRG25FKSS04 freezer is not freezing

Hello, few things to check:

1) Remove dirt / dust that has accumulated on the condenser coil located on the back of the fridge, or underneath. Use a vacuum to clean off with.

2) Remove dirt / dust in / around compressor area. Make sure you turn power off first as there are several areas in this area that can "bite."

3) Look for heavy frost / ice buildup in the freezer compartment. Defrost if necessary.

4) Make sure the fan is blowing in the freezer compartment.

5) Make sure there is air flow from the vent at the top of the refrigerator compartment. This air is driven by the fan in the freezer (most models).

6) Loading a lot of unfrozen food into the freezer compartment will have the appearance of the fridge going out, but is actually functioning normally as it removes heat from the food so it will freeze.

7) Your thermostat is not working correctly. Move it to the coldest setting if not already done so. Listen for the compressor to kick on. If it doesn't, bad t-stat.

Thanks
