How do i replace brushes on porter cable model 7539 plunge router

The brushes are on the front and back of the motor, under the top cover. Remove the four screws on the top cover and remove it. The brushes are held in place by a coil spring, pull it back so the brush will slip out. Some brush leads have slip connectors and others are held in place by a screw, depends on what type router you have. Disconnect the brush lead then reverse the process to install the new brush.

How do I replace the magnetic ring on DW618?

take out 4 screws on top of router. i used a large flat head but they are not flat head (some kind of combo with star type center). remove top could be a little stuck. you will see bearing in center. the magnetic ring sits underneath the bearing. you need a small bearing/gear puller to get bearing out. once out the magnetic ring goes flat side down over center shaft and then the bearing gets replaced over it. i just tapped the bearing down softly with a small hammer being careful not to break new magnetic ring.

How does one change from one collet size to another size. My Freud router came with the 1/2" collet installed and I need to change to the 1/4" size supplied with the router to fit a bit I want to use....

I just did this on my black and decker router. You need to unscrew the nut that holds the collet and remove it altogether. Then slip out the collet in there and replace it with the new size. Take care to notice how it goes in when you take the old one out. Then rescrew the nut that holds it in place and tighten. My router had three collets and only one of them works for each size, so if it doesn't tighten properly, it may be the wrong size. Good luck.

Router will not power up

I wrote a long response to your question, which apparantly has been lost in the web somewhere.
Try to make sure the detachable power cord is properly connected, and twisted 1/4 turn clockwise to lock in place.
Make sure the toggle switch is working freely.
Make sure the collet lock or spindle lock is not engaged.
If that doesn't help, please write back and I'll try to re write a troubleshooting guide for you.
I can't believe it didn't post properly.
Anyway, good luck!

Bosch 1617 EVS router will not start.

It sounds like either the switch is going bad, or the brushes have worn out. It's hard to say, not knowing how many hours of use you have on the machine. You've already pulled the cover. Take a look at the length of the brushes and see if they're a candidate for replacement. If not, it's not much farther to go to replace the switch.
The only other likely cause I can imagine is that the power cord itself has been bent into the same shape so many times from rolling it up around the router that is has a short and makes intermittent contact. But you say you have checked this and the fault is not with the cord.
You might try spinning the motor armature part of a revolution by hand, so it comes to rest in a different spot, and trying the switch.
These switches do go bad, and that is usually the culprit. The history of the switch seems to indicate it was behaving erratically before it failed, and with new ones costing only about $5.00, I'd invest in a new one, install it yourself, and save yourself the cost of a service fee.
You can acquire parts here, among many others, if you choose to follow that course: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/bosch-1617evs-0601617739-router-parts-c-128_1119_3070.html
If you do order parts online, try to confirm you've found the correct part by including the Bosch 10 digit tool product number in your search.
I hope this helps to lead you toward a swift solution. Best wishes!

Powerless

I would first use compressed air and thoroughly blow thru the vents. Second I would take out the brushes they have a black cap over them and after removing wipe them off with a clean rag and reinstall. Look at the cord for cracks in outer jacket. Plug in and try again. If this doesn't work UNPLUG tool and turn collet nut by hand and connect again and retry. That is about the only things you can do safely. When storing sometimes dust and debris gets inside tool and can make the brushes loose contact with the armature
