    Hello,
I accidentally uninstalled the audio drivers for my acer aspire 3000 (laptop).their name was ac 97 realtek audio or something like that. I downloaded new drivers but I don't know how to make them work.
    can you please help me?
    thank you. Erika

Here is my similar problem: I know that windows has it's own audio/sound features/device(at least, I thought it does). I wanted to use windows sounds without having to use realtek so I uninstalled it(realtek). when I did, I no longer had any sound/audio and the windows audio display was grayed out. I reinstalled realtek ac97 from my emachines cd and from the website(not together, of course. this was after several failed attempts to recover my sound). and then each time, the windows audio display was back the way it was(non-grayed out). but still no sound. I have tried EVERYTHING: uninstalling realtek, reinstalling realtek, updating realtek drivers, reading hundreds of forums with similar problems but not exactly as mine...
I am still without sound. it looks as though my pc will be without it for life(however long or short that is, since pc's are not made to last forever).

  • roalau Dec 22, 2008

I should also add: why MUST my pc have realtek ac97 as it's sound source? why is my pc dependent upon realtek? can't I use something else? and what is there I can use?

  • roalau Dec 22, 2008

Also: now that my pc is without sound, my pc is slower; how does the lack of sound effect a pc's speed performance?

  • roalau Dec 23, 2008

I also tried another option, which I read on several forums: system restore. knowing it would not work, I tried it anyway. any date I chose to roll back to, it did not work. after rebooting, a message said "your system could not restore to the date specified"(or something like that). so, reinstalling realtek ac97 several times, updating the driver several times, uninstalling it several times, etc. I have tried ALL of the options mentioned on ALL forums. nothing helps. why did realtek remove my windows sounds and why can I not get them back? why doesn't microsoft/windows have audio/sound drivers? why MUST I have to use realtek ac97? isn't there anything else I can use?

  • roalau Dec 23, 2008

I even attempted to chat online with emachines(5 times!) about this problem. it got me so frustrated because they did not know the problem(huh ?) and it is THEIR pc! they kept asking me for the serial number and I gave them the only number there is, but they said it was wrong. so now, here I am, frustrated and still without sound for 4 days now and no fix in sight. apparently, there isn't one person on earth who can fix this problem. not even bill gate$ who established microsoft. weird. I want to know why, when realtek ac97 was removed, my windows sounds went with it. and why, when I reinstalled realtek ac97 and even attempted to update the drivers, it did not return my sounds. and why must my pc rely on realtek as my sound source? there must be something else I can use instead of realtek. is realtek the only sound service on earth?

  • roalau Dec 24, 2008

obviously, no one here will help nor wants to help. microsoft/bill gates can't do it, emachines can't do it. and there isn't anyone on earth smart enough to do it. so I will just be without sound for the life of my pc, all because realtek ac97 removed it.

Below are two links where you can find the drivers for your sound card.
After downloadiing them follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.

You can also do it through your Device Manager console.

No audio on pc problem

Check the Sound and Audio settings to make sure that the proper output device has been selected. Go to your Control Panel then Sound and Audio Devices, then the Audio tab. In that tab make sure that Default Sound Playback is set your sound card.

REALTEK REMOVED MY WINDOWS SOUNDS!!

Solution:

best sol: go to start button ----->click RUN----->Type devmgmt.msc in Text Box ----->

Device Manager windows appears , click on Sound, video and game controllers(+),
if you see "Realtek AC97 drivers"(if they are visible...) then we can make sure that sound                     drivers are loaded in ur system, otherwise you have load it again.....

                                                          or

i) my best advice would be, dont mess up with installing, reinstalling, uninstalling sound drivers rather try   to format or reload your OS again(Windows XP) and then install drivers.

ii)  try to check volume on your speakers, volume in windows or system , volume in media players sometimes they may set to mute of no volume.......

iii) try to check all sound physcial connection that run from your computer to speakers, including power connections, cable connection ....or just remove and replace them(reseating...)

iv) try connecting a headset to your sound port, sometimes your subwoofers or speakers may fail.....

Thanking You
