RAM NOT DETECTED in ASUS P5VD2- MX Motherboard

I had 1GB RAM in my ASUS P5VD2- MX Motherboard was working very fine and added 1GB more in the other slot provided.
But still the Motherboard is not able to detect the new 1GB added to it.
The BIOS information still stays 960MB usable memory.
Help needed to make the motherboard detect both the 1GB slots.
Thank You
Ravindra

ASUS P5VD2-MX SE recognizes only up to 2500MB RAM

Hi,

Actually you are doing better than you think, According to your MB specs it is only supposed to hold a max of 2GB (1GB per slot). The updated BIOS may be allowing for the additional 500MB.

If you would like to verify, here is a link to the manual for your MB:

P5VD2-MX SE Manual

See page viii.

Thanks for using Fixya.

1gb shows 512mb only

Your mobo is quite old and its chipset can only support a maximum of 512MB PER SIDE (technically called a bank) of a memory module. I would guess that your 1gb memory module has 8 chips that are all located on one side of the module, putting all of the 1 GB on one bank. Thus, only 512MB of your 1 gb RAM is detected and usable by your motherboard (the remaining 32 mb is most likely being used by your onboard video). You'll need to find a double sided 1 gb memory module (usually 8 chips on each side).

RAM MEMORY WONT INSTALL/DOES NOT WORK

It sounds like the RAM you ordered is defective.
I would put the your old ram in and verify that the system boots and operates properly. If it does, then I would send the RAM in for replacement.

I hope this helps,

Thanks for using FixYa,
