There is also advertising at the bottom of my folders on the left hand side. How can I stop this? ASAP

try opening up that email which is there in spam and that you wanted to come in inbox.when you open it up than you will see an option that says "this is not a spam"..click on that option and after that mails will be coming in your inbox.
how many emails are in your inbox?? a lot of times, there are old emails at the bottom that go unnoticed. It happens to me every other day... not trying to sound condescending but try scrolling all the way down, or deleting all the junk that you do not need. or try checking the trash/bulk folder... maybe by deleting some without opening them, the server still sees them as unread and therefore 'new'...
please rate if this helps, or respond for further assistance...thanks
