D-Link router : no wireless connectivity

D-Link DI 524:
Had this router on main PC and running 2 laptops through wireless for almost 2 years with no problems. I was on the net earlier, and lost connection, tried repair, checked cables, switched it's power off/on etc but no joy. I noticed that the 'status' light on the router is flashing (says on the underside of the router that solid light indicated connected). Can anyone help?? I've not tried re-setting it yet as Im not sure that I would be able to set it all up again.

    1. After resetting the router, is the status light still flashing?

    2. What is the IP address that your desktop obtain from the router?

    3. Can you still ping the default IP address of the router?

Hi, I put this up on moneysavingexpert and got help straight away. After a few checks, it turned out I'd accidentally slid the wireless switch on my laptop so it was nothing to do with the router after all!! lol

DI-524 wired/wireless access point

Just for fun, make the router give out IP addresses starting at 192.168.0.101 forward. Configure the AP at 192.168.0.2 with no DHCP (the host will give out the addresses), a netmask of 255.255.255.0, and a gateway of 192.168.0.1. Now, let the laptop find DHCP, or give it a 192.168.0.x address where x is greater than 2 but less than 101.

How lucky is that?

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

You do not need the disc. Using you browser, login into the router using the default IP 192.168.0.1 unless this has been changed and you should be able to configure your router.

New laptop can not connect to Di-524 router

connect the router to pc via a ethernet cable, then there should be a reset pin hole on the back, press this, the router will restart and clear the password, restart pc next, then type in the routers address again and you should connect.

You can then remove the cable and connect using the wireless connection

Dlink di-524 connect to RV042

Hi.

You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.

Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of 192.168.1.1, and the DLINK IP uses 192.168.0.1. Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.

Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.

This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.

DI-524 Wireless

Yes you can, it's easy.

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-524 to a LAN port of your other router. Leave the DI-524 WAN port empty.
2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-524, your other router will be the DHCP server.
3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-524, different from your other router's. Example, if your other router has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your other router and that the subnet mask is identical on both.

Connecting a DI-524 to a DI-604

This shouldn't really be any problem simply use a short "Uplink" ethernet cable to join the routers thru the uplink port, or any port really, and that way ya should be able to wifi and access the net, set ya router that connects to the net for DCHP and disable that setting in the Wifi router and ya should be good to go?

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.
