Question about Nintendo DS Lite Console

Can't turn off DS games

I bought a DS on Ebay with several free games. None of them seem to have the option of "exiting" or shutting down. I just have to turn it off at the power. Is this normal?

Yes this is normal. Games for the DS Lite (and the DS) don't have an exit option. You must turn the device off, remove the game and start the device with another one.
With your ....... card its the same, it must start-up again to see the list to choose from

I bought a brand new DS lite online, it functions perfectly when switched on, but when I insert a game card it immediately switches itself off. if I insert the game card before turning the DS on, then it...

I had just repaired two of these with the same problems, and ran into two different solutions! First solution is too check with a little flash light inside the game cartridge area where you insert the game for bent pins that may contact each other when the game is inserted, the solution is to take apart and repair the bent pins by straightening them out, or buy a new cartridge holder from ebay to solder on the board. This fixes no read and shut down of ds, and is a permanent fix, until someone jams a cartridge back in and bends the pins again.

The other fix, is to buy a new motherboard I found that one had a circuit malfunction which caused this issue.

Most likely and a lot of times it is in fact bent pins causing this because when inserting the game into the cartridge area over and over with force or putting it in backwards and forcing it by someone that doesn't know any better will create the problem and that leaves you two options I stated above: If you can fix the bent pins you might have success, if you can solder, you can replace the game cartridge on the motherboard, and or replace motherboard if that failed. If you don't do none of these you have the option to get it repaired, sell it back on eBay.
The pins are fragile and can be bent in ways not repairable in that case you would safe time and effort to buy a game cartridge on line, cheap few bucks, and solder it onto motherboard to fix your issue.
Just look for game cartridge slot reader for your type of ds on eBay! Good Luck!

    1. Remove all games from the Nintendo DS.

    2. Turn the system on by pressing up on the POWER switch.

    3. Tap the screen using the stylus when the "Touch the Touch Screen to continue" message appears.

    4. When the main menu appears, tap the stylus on the Settings Menu Panel at the bottom middle part of the screen.

    5. Tap the Options icon.

    7. Tap the top box for "M Manual Mode" and tap the "Confirm" rectangle.

    8. Wait for the confirmation message to disappear, then tap "Go Back," then "Quit," then "Yes" to exit. The unit will shut down automatically to save the settings.

My game does not stay saved when I shut down my DS

Naturally, this should not happen

If you're positive that you're saving the game correctly (saving through the Save option in the trunk and letting it finish saving), then there's a problem with your copy of the game

If you obtained a "second hand" copy through some place like eBay, then you likely have a pirated copy of the game (which are known to have a number of problems such as this one)

If you purchased it from a store, then take it back for a replacement (which is the only "fix" for this problem)

Saving the game data on Professor Layton and the Curious Village

The game should, of course, overwrite existing saves without problem (even if second hand)

You are not prompted to save when you quit (since there really isn't a quit or even a return to menu)

While the game does have a few set save points, the best way to save (which can be done at any time) is to use the Save option in the trunk (some players forget about this)

If you save into a save slot doing this and it's not there when you next restart the game, then something is wrong

It should also be noted that some (if not many) of the "second hand" copies purchased on eBay are actually pirated copies that have caused problems for players (including stopping with blacked out screens during the game)

If you are confident that saving just isn't working and you're unable to return the game for replacement or refund, one drastic course of action may be to corrupt the save (by quickly turning off the DS while it saves), thus causing the game to say the save is corrupted and make a new save file ... naturally, this should only be done as a last resort

None responsive DS lite screen

Hi,
It sounds like you need a replacement touch screen. They are reasonably simple to replace if you're confident with taking it apart, otherwise you'll need to pay for a repair. You can buy touchscreen on ebay fairly cheaply.

My progress is not saving on Professor Layton

i had this problem and then I realised that when you click save, you then need to select which file you want to save (generally in your own name) it will then pop up with "progress saved" - simply selecting save is not enough

DS Keeps telling me to put the system settings

If you go to the Settings option as you obviously have, try to go into the Start-up options and click on the Arrow leading into a box.... this will take you to manual mode or Auto mode. If you chose Auto mode it will just start up the game as you put the card in. If you want to change it... take the game out, start it up and you will have the option of changing it back to manual mode or changing your settings etc. Make sure you hit confirm with all the options you change.
