When trying to play music the display shows "Unknown Format"

Only MP3 and unprotected WMA files re supported. If you upload copy protected WMA files or any of the iTunes AAC formated songs, they will not play. All purchases from the iTunes store have to be converted to MP3 before they can be played on this player.

Also, some older MP3 players will not be able to play MP3 audio encoded at high bitrates.

I uploading a bunch of MP3s and a lot of them won't play, I get a "format error" message and it scrolls past the songs. How can I fix this?

your media player only supports the following formats: MP3, WMA, OGG. Make sure the songs you uploaded are compatable formats.

Supported files missing

hi,
u formated the data(mp3s) and the players
firmware with them.

do get the firmware installer here:

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/nws-e-series/nw-e107

reinstall the firmware and audio manager

and next time just erase all the mp3s only (via file manager or windows exploerer
instead of blanking the whole player :-)

Wrong format error msg

If they're not mp3 files then it's probably not supported by that mp3 player and that why you get this message.
Try converting them to mp3s on the computer before you put them on it.

WMAs and MP3s getting a "not supported format"

Check the files that say "non-supported format" by right-clicking one and going to "properties". Click the "license," "digital rights mgmt," or "media usage rights" tab (wording varies by configuration). See if the license is expired or says, does not support transfer to device. Make sure your music svc sub is up-to-date. If so, convert them all to mp3 format - problem solved. Another poster said that they got same error with 128 kbps bit rate.

Format error

It's an unsupported file format. Are you trying to play files that were ripped in I-tunes? I-tunes does not make mp3s, it makes m4a files, which are not supported. Make sure the files you put on this player are mp3 files. You can also use wma files, but you will probably need to use Windows Media Player to transfer those files.

Let me know how you get on & shout if you need more help!

Won't format and won't play mp3

try loading files on different bit rates and see what bitrate your player can play. some player wont play files that are directly copied to the player, it needs a certain software to encode it to its standard format. sony walkman is an example, it has its own software to encode files from mp3 to its own supported format.
