I purchased a Canon EOS

I purchased a Canon EOS 40D in late August 2008. I am continually having focus problems. My pictures are not sharp...My EF 28-135 lens also will not focus on auto focus, which I did not realize until I tried it last week as I was focusing in manual and using center spot metering. Which still my pics are out of focus...Do I send it back to canon to be fixed or replaced?? Thanks Didi
