Changed filter for Aprilaire 600, but water doesnt flow now, how correct?
My husband is disabled so I am trying to do things myself., now, we are both seniors. I changed the filter (water panel). but the water wont flow, I think I did everything right.
the only thing I couldnt do was "turn the water off" (how do you do this? no instructions in booklet). and "turn the water on".
the water was flowing before I changed the water panel, but now it isnt, Any suggestions?
thanks, Nancy in OHIO
ps I followed everything the booklet says to do, except 'water off" and water on. Dont know what else to do. Dont want to spend a fortune having repair man come to house, when it could be simple solution
Re: changed filter for Aprilaire 600, but water doesnt...
YOU SHOULD HAVE BETWEEN .250 TO.375 INCH WATER LINE ENTERING YOU'R HUMIDIFIER .THIS WILL TERMINATE AT A FLOAT VALVE.THIS IS MUCH LIKE THE VALVE IN YOU'R TOLIET.TRY PUSHING THE ARM DOWN,THIS SHOULD LET WATER INTO THE HUMIDIFIER,AS PULLING UP SHOULD SHUT IT OFF.IF THIS DOE'S NOT WORK THEN THERE (SHOULD BE A VALVE BETWEEN THE HUMIDIFIER & THE SOURCE)MOST LIKLY LOCATED NEAR YOU'R HOT WATER HEATER.MAKE SURE THIS VALVE IS ON!!! IF I'M RIGHT YOU MAY HAVE JAMED THE FLOAT IN THE OFF POSITION WHILE REPLACING THE FILTER HOPE THIS WAS SOME HELP>

Water will flow over the filter pad as long as the unit is calling for humidity. once the unit is satisfied the solenoid valve should stop the water flow. if the water continues to flow with out call then solenoid valve has failed open. hope this helps.suppling an owners manual in case you need one.
I corrected the problem...RH is rising nicely!! Installed by "professionals" on my Trane XV90....I redid their wiring and now have the following setup...
600A water supply coming from hot water line. Removed orifice inside incoming feed tube. control incoming water flow from saddlevalve on hot water supply ( make sure its a nice solid flow, no drips, but no "force" too it either)..enough to insure entire evaporator unit is wet and water is slightly flowing out of bottom to drain.
I also have it wired to run when ever the furnace blower is on. Heat or no heat. XV90 is variable speed, and by doing this the 600a is always adding moisture, until it reaches correct RH%
Also, I disconnected the outdoor temp sensor. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 47K ohm resistor ( 1/2 watt....4 pack for 99 cents). Installed that in place of outdoor sensor...now runs in manual mode. Have unit currently set to number 5.
The max the aprilaire can put out is 45% Rh. Your humidifier may wired up to run only when the heat is on. In some cases this is not enough time to maintain your humidity level your seeking. To correct this, the hum. has to hooked up the hot side of the water supply. And the humidifier has to be hooked up when the fan runs and leave the fan run constantly
When your unit is on normal the outside unit works and the inside only the fan runs. your heat pump does not remove any humidity when it operates so the installation cotractor did not wire it to operate then. you can change the wiring on the humidifier to operate all the time by wiring it to the fan (g) terminal then it should work just turn it all the way to the lowest humidity when you are in cooling mode.
solenoid valves dont just burn up just like that you have a recurring restriction due to bad water.Check the saddle valve at the water heater first then check for postive water flow at inlet to the solenoid valve,if you have water flow the valve is clogged with sediment.
Turn the control knob to the test/reset position untill the change water panel light blinks to reset the change panel timer. Make shure the furnace is running calling for heat.Turn control knob to prior setting after resetting timer. Hope this helps.
