Not able to go online

I'm trying to fix my friends gateway 7330 gz notebook but every time I try to go online the internet explorer screen comes up that says that there was a problem and needs to shut down. I dont know if it is because of the network driver that I got from gateway or if something is wrong in the system. I cant even get into windows update. when I try it says the requested lookup key was not found in any active activation. does anyone have any idea what I can do or where to start.

I finally got the right ethernet driver for it. I had to get a driver for a 6000 series (D00267) but it still won't let me go on-line. I'm using my laptop to download drivers onto a flash drive and then onto the 7330gz. the thing that I'm not understanding is why won't it let me go to windows update? thank you so much for taking the time to reply and if you have any other ideas I'd love to hear them. because i'm stumped.

In the device manager click on the network adapters. If you install the driver into the flashdrive then you should be able to get the internet and updates. The trick is to install the driver from another computer that already has the internet. Rebooting the laptop will only install the factory settings. It will leave some of the drivers out (example: ethernet, vga graphics, audio). There is another way if you have the recovery disc for the gateway then you can install that driver you need. Once you get that driver into the the gateway then you can acess the internet and gateway site and get all the drivers. Sometimes in the tools menu is working offline. If you have access to another computer you can go to the gateway site, download and burn the programs you need on cd or flash drive. Then install the flashdrive or cd into the laptop. To find out what programs you need to install on the gateway, go to the control panel>administrative tools>computer management>device manager.

Laptop will not come on. Indicates that it is connected to power source although it is loose. What should I do? Is it the motherboard or the d/c adapter? I have a Gateway 7330 GZ.

Try another 19volts adapter. If problem still the same and the laptop not powering-on, there's something wrong with the motherboard circuit and not the DC JACK cause it indicates that you connect an adapter.

Gateway Notebook PC 7330 GZ Power Problem

The most common problem is the plastic that covers the switch breaks. It's a poor design. Take out two screws along the top edge from the bottom near the middle and pry off the keyboard access cover. Then take off the circuit board and you should be able to turn it on and off.
