Question about Compaq A3000 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Compaq A3000 scan issue

I have had this all-in-one for several years with no issues. The other day I tried to scan something to print and an error message on the display says "Add Right Cart." It just beeps and will not scan. Both cartridges are new, I cleaned the contacts and replaced them, I printed a test page, printed a "clean the heads" page, and everything seems fine. I also printed a picture I had saved on the computer and it prints just fine. I tried restarting the computer and restarting the printer. I have checked all the connections. Everything seems fine. I then decided to try and just scan the image to the PC and then print it off. But, the scanner started scanning and then just stopped about a 1/8th of the way across. I went and looked at the saved image and it was fine except that it was only an 1/8th of the page. I then tried to rescan it but an error message came up saying that the scanner was locked and needed to be unlocked. There isnt even a utility to do that! I restarted the printer, the scanner bar reset, and I tried it again. Same result. So, those are my two issues, both were discovered at the same time, and I havent had either of those problems before. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas before I go out and buy a new all-in-one. Thank-you in advance

The cartridges problem my be caused by the two retaining springs located under the cartridge resting area at the right side of the printer. I discovered them when I opened up an attemped to clean my A3000. Both springs were broken, an I can't tell where they were attached.

Printer does not print

Issues with the cartridge are other causes for trouble in your printer. If you have not used your printer for a pretty long time, there's chance for the ink in the cartridge to get solidified, ending up in its damage. The issue could also be caused due to the lack of ink in the cartridges. In order to resolve the issue, you might ensure that you are not keeping your printer idle for very long periods. You could also check its ink level.

I would start by uninstalling the printer and then re-installing it. If the error persists; run a virus scan/spyware clean because something else is likely the root cause.

A 3000 will not print pdf documents

You need to be more specific on the issue like when I print a pdf the printer prints garbage, or it doesn't print at all.
If it prints garbage it is due to the printer driver. Re-install the printer software after uninstalling it , and rebooting your PC.

Printer head won't go back into non print position

The issue that your having is a hardware issue. There might be something wrong with the gears or the printhead. This is a very complex process if your going to fix it yourself.

Adode Acrobat Standard PDF Files won't print on A3000

I've had the same problem when using Acrobat 7.0. I reinstalled version 6.0 and it works fine. You may even want to try a different reader such as Foxit.

Onmly Compaq will have the approprive driver download. You are correct to assume a Vista compatability issue- this is becoming more evirdent with many peripherals. By the bye- the printer is of course a rebadged Lexmark or HP or Brother [ can be either] see if you can see which and check the appropriate web site. This site may also be of assistance
