Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

Directv remote and LG remote will not control tv, just receiver

Let's start simple first. Your TV is not responding to either remote control, but specifically if your factory original LG remote does not operate the LG TV, then the problem could be with the IR receiver in the TV itself.

Ensure nothing is blocking the IR receiver on the TV. Move anything out of the way.

Test both remotes to ensure that they are sending an infrared IR signal to the TV. Use a digital camera (such as the one on your phone) and point the remote into the camera lense and press the power/volume/channel buttons. You should see a faint flashing light in your camera viewfinder. This indicates that the remote is sending IR signal. If you don't see anything, then there is no signal. Try FRESH batteries.

If your remotes are working, and since this is an LG, look at the back of the TV by the video inputs. Look for a port called "REMOTE CONTROL IN" or similar. It looks like a 3.5mm headphone jack. This port is used for external remote control and may be dirty.

UNPLUG the TV, then use a regular 3.5mm male headphone jack to plug in and out several times. You basically want to push all the way in and all the way out several times to dislodge any dust and remove any oxidation that has built up in the port. 10-15 times should do fine.

Then plug in the TV and try your remote.

Best of luck.

My remote stopped working. I replaced batteries, nothing, bought a universal remote, followed directions nothing. Can the TV be the problem? Is there a factory reset on the TV?

it could be sensor on tv

try holding remote in front of a video recorder and if you push button on remote and view through video recorder you should be able to see the light blinking coming out of remote - if you see the light coming out of remote and it is still not working then the tvs sensor went bad

besides trying to unplug tv for a few minutes there is no reset for this issue

My original remote for my Element TV has gone bad and the Universal that I bought for it will not work. Is there another place to get a Universal that will work>

Hello there,

If you're going to replace the remote, I would advise replacing it with an original Element remote. Finding a universal remote to work with Element TVs is purely trial and error - in many cases error!

I can help you to find either a replacement original remote or a universal that will work with your TV, but before doing so, you really need to check whether it's the remote that needs to be replaced. When TVs fail to respond to the remote control, it can be due to a fault with the infra-red (IR) receiver in the TV. Before buying a replacement, please test your remotes as follows:

1. Get someone to point the remote at you and press some buttons while you look through the viewfinder of a digital-camera or camera-phone. You should be able to see white flashes from the end of the remote through the viewfinder. This works better in a darkened room but it needs to be light enough for the digital camera to function.

If you don't have a camera-phone or digital camera . . .

2. Take the remote into a dark room - totally black works best. Point the end of the remote which you point at the TV towards you and press some buttons. You should be able to see faint red flashes emitted from the end of the remote. This is not to be confused with the indicator light near the top of many remote which illuminates when you press a button.

If the remote is working, it may still be possible to get the TV to respond again. Please try this first and let me know the results of the test. I will then be able to assist you in finding a replacement remote - or possibly even get the TV to respond again. Please reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

LE26R74BDX TV Not responding to Remote

there is a easier way to check your remote.
Open your radio on AM frequencies, you don't need to be tuned just noise is perfect, then bring your remote near the antenna and press some button. You will ear the frequency in your radio. If it works this way but not on the TV make sure to press the TV button before using it (if the remote is universal).

My TV won't respond to the remote control

"My TV does respond to several channels from the remote , but not to all of them."

yoopergal , I know you love the little IR component az do I , The little IR may not be the problem.

What you may me experiencing is a remote control that has become defective or dammaged.

What kind of dammage is anybodies guess.

It could be the CPU inside , or it could be that the little contacts inside are not working.

so you may need to find a Universal Remote and you may want to check to see which one is the best before purchasing one.

When you look for a new (UVR) Universal Remote Control make sure you buy one with an small digital display so that you can see the alpha numerical data output of the remote.

Make sure that the UVR you buy contains the codes for the equipment you already own.
