What power supply do you mean Sir/Ma'am.
is it the AVR (automatic voltar regulator)?
if its the AVR, just switch it on and check the output voltage with a multimeter (AC range 250)
you should see the voltage output nearly equal to your SERVICE AC voltage

Power Supply Issue - Green LED ON..no power up

tried to disconnected the 24v supply connectors going to the power inverter board which may the cause of voltage drop. after you disconnect then if still no output 24v dc coming from the power supply board the cause will be bad power supply board. check for an open resistance or bad regulators going to the 24vdc out. by the way you should connect all the connectors going to the main board to turn on the processor and the inv_on voltage going to the inverter board.

I have a vx900 internal power supply. Wont power on at all so I checked the caps, seems good, I tested the power supply, 11 volts out of the unit but 2.5 volts when it is reinstalled. What do I need to do...

There are two version of this monitor, one has built-in power supply, another one uses 12vdc adapter.
Adapter:
http://lcdpayless.com/productpage.php?productId=4629

The adapter is REGULATED 12vdc 6a power supply that can handle the load up to 6a, if when is has load on it and the voltage drops down to 2.5vdc, teh it is that the power supply is bad or you have shorted circuits in the monitor. You can test the power supply using 12v car lamp such as #1157 bulb to test your power supply under load.
Caps in the power supply do go bad as you can see in my pictures here:

Hi,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit.It needs a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Your unit will back to normal again if the leaky capacitor is isolated.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Soyo 19" flat screen monitor

Hi, these monitors are dropping like flys and it's due to power supply problems. There is a power supply that needs to supply 5v, 12v, 24v. The 5v and 12v is for the logic boards and the 24v is for the back light. On other boards people have tried to repair the supplies with no luck (same here).
The best fix is to purchase two power bricks off of ebay. Get one that supply 5v 12v that are used for external hard drive enclosures and get one 24v that is used for mac g4 laptops. Both can be had for < $10. Then you will have to replace the internal power supply with these. This is not for the beginner, but if you have any experience with soldering and wiring you should be able to do it. You will have to tap into the 12,5 volt wires, I used the PC style power 4 pin connections and attached the other end to the power supply. You will also have to do this for the 24 v lines. A bit of cutting / stripping, soldering and getting the AC to both will do the job.
The only thing that this will not do is shut of the 24 v supply during idle. Best this is to remove power from the monitor when not in use. This should fix an no / power / on then off / problems with this monitor.
Total time is probably about 2 hours and tools needed are the replacement power bricks, cutters, soldering iron, solder, electrical tape, screw driver... etc

Drop kick it... Sounds like you lost power from the supply pack. Check and see if you are getting the proper voltage output from the transformer using a volt meter

Take a look at the capacitors and see if you have any weak one. An obvious way to spot one would be one bubbled up on top. A bad cap won't always be bubbled up. The monitor probably can operate until the voltage drops under 8 volts. Also possible if power supply check out good would be a weak backlight inverter.
