Belt keeps breaking on my Ultra Vision Turbo Upright

Every time I go to vaccuum my carpet the belt immediately breaks. I have taken the roller off of the bottom and cleaned it all out. I am wondering if I need to try to clean it out better or if maybe I am putting the belt on incorrectly? I have gone through 4 belts within the week trying to get it to function properly.

SOURCE: dust blowing out of my vaccuum cleaner

Usually when dust is blowing out it is caused by a clog, either the hose, or the dirt inlet down by the brush roll is clogged. Check them and clean them out and you should be ok.

Belts can look ok, but after a short period stretch so they won't turn the brush roll under load, if you have never changed it, and if it is a flat belt, I would try a new one.

remove the dirt cup, the top part should turn a little bit and then separate ( look were the clear plastic meets the colored top you might see a little picture of a lock and a open lock turn the lid towards the unlocked position , the filter should be in there

The manual is confusing - I had the same problem. Make sure you put the belt around the smaller motor axle, not the lever arm attached to the on/off foot switch. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but that was my problem with this. Jeff

SOURCE: Roller not working

Yes. Checking the belt would be a good place to start.  Turn the machine over and remove the soleplate - there are three screws designed to be turned just one quarter turn each using a coin.  With the soleplate removed you will see the belt or, more likely, where the belt should be if the old one's broken.  Get a new belt and pop it on, and you'll be back in business.
This is almost certainly the problem, as there's not much else to go wrong down there, but if this doesn't help post another message and we'll try again.  Good luck.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Belt keeps breaking, but motor turns easily by hand on bissell powergroom, burnt rubber smell as well.....

Something is preventing the roller from spinning when in contact with the carpet. This causes the belt to stop turning and the motor shaft spinning in one spot causes the belt to burn and break. The protective guard could be damaged or not installed correctly, preventing the roller from spinning when the vacuum is upright. Also, if you are vacuuming a pet, check for fur or hair jammed in all the likely places and some unlikely ones too

Brushes don't spin

Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.

Eats belts immediately

HI There,

Usually when the belt breaks immediately, this indicates that your roller brush has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I have never seen the motor shaft being damaged and causing belts to break before. When the roller brush can't spin because it's bearings have worn out, the motor shaft continues to try and turn the belt, but since the belt can't spin the motor shaft at that point burns right through the belt.

To make sure that it's your roller brush, remove the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and hold it using just your two pointer finger tips, holding just the bearings caps at the end of the bar, and not the bar itself.

Try to spin the brush using your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely without resistance? It should spin completely around 3-4 times on each spin. If it doesn't spin, then your bar is bad.

If the brush doesn spin, and it continues to break belts, this means that the belt is being installed incorrectly, and is being pinched by the roller brush. Pull the belt forwards after installing to make sure the brush spins freely.

Hope this helped you,

Why does the belt keep breaking as soon as I turn on the vacuum?

Hi Have you got the correct belt? If its breaking then the brush end caps or something is clogged. If you can get into the floor head ensure you look at the actual brush roll to see if there is anything is clogged or trapped. Remove all matter of dust and see if that works.

Dirt Devil vacuum sucks... figuratively

Well, I guess your visitors have come and gone, but the vacuum remains the same. It sounds like you have a broken or worn belt. The belt should be changed once a year (approx) and can break if something is picked up that jams the brush. It is also possible that you have something obstructing the vacuum inlet at the brush housing.
If the belt is worn, it can still look o.k., but won't have the tension to turn the roller when it engages the carpet. I suspect the belt is your trouble.
