Question about Sherwood Audio Players & Recorders

5 Answers

I have a Sherwood RX-2030R, 45 Watt receiver that will not tune to the lower AM stations. It tunes between 1320 and 1710 and will not even display the lower AM stations. The FM stations seem to tune correctly.

I tried "resetting" the receiver by removing/unplugging the power cord as suggested. My problem still exists.

  • JHobbleknock Nov 06, 2008

I am aware of the "AM mode" button on the receiver, and yes, the receiver is capable of AM reception.

I already have the receiver hooked to an external antenna. The problem still exists.

My receiver used to receive these AM frequencies, so it's not an issue of the capabilities of the tuner. It used to receive the AM channels and now it does not.

Look on the manual it should have a button to perform a AM mode. If it has then try to look also if your device is capable of AM mode and up frequency.

Check Sherwood RX-2030R specification of AM tuning frequencies limits in user manual.
Please confirm was it tune before below 1320 and above 1710 AM meter band?

PIONEER VSX-D903S - A/V Receiver
PIONEER CU-VSX079 - Remote

Here's the basics: Make sure your receiver is in the Tuner mode, by selecting Tuner on either the remote (grey button), on the receiver, or from the GUI menu. (The display will also show TUNER.) There are a couple of different ways to tune a station. One method is with the remote. Use the Band button on the remote (or via the GUI display), or the FM/AM button on the receiver, to select the frequency type. Use the Freq/Ch buttons on the remote to tune, the number buttons for presets (30 presets total. Examples: Preset 5, simply press 5; Preset 15, enter 5-5; Preset 25, enter 5-5-5). You can also use the on-screen GUI menu and the remote to tune stations, using the lower grey buttons. If you want to tune directly, via the receiver, press Select, to switch between frequency tuning and presets (displays ST CALL) mode. Use the Multi-Jog dial to make your selection in either mode. The easiest way to program a station into a preset is to use the onscreen GUI menu. [NOTE: The GUI mode (TV Monitor Video Out, composite video) is active when an amber (orange) ring glows around the Multi-Jog dial (the GUI button on the receiver will also glow simultaneously). Use the remote lower grey buttons, or use the Multi-Jog dial and Select, to move the cursor and select commands on the TV. This A/V Receiver handles composite video/S-video, and Stereo/Dolby 3-Channel/Dolby Pro-Logic audio only. (Pre-ATSC/HD video, Pre-Dolby Digital/DTS multi-channel surround audio)]

I just bought a used jvc rx9010. it powers up but no sound from any speaker and shows headphone all the time what should a layperson check???

No speakers are selected if just headphone is displayed. Press the speaker button just under the power button. No station is tuned when auto muting is displayed. Hook up an antenna to the receiver or use a different source like a cd player.

Auto muting on when on am/fm and no sounds come out. everything else is fine.

That's normal.

The Auto Muting mode mutes the audio output of the tuner if the station is not sufficciently strong to be accurately tuned. Otherwise you would hear all that interstation hash noise.

Press the FM Mode button to change it to Mono if you want to manually tune a hard-to-reach station. It will be in Mono.

Page 26:

AUTO MUTING
Normally select this.
When a program is broadcast in stereo, you will hear stereo sound; when in monaural, you will hear monaural sound.
This mode is also useful to suppress static noise between stations. The AUTO MUTING indicator lights up on the display.
