Magic jack creates very choppy audio

I get choppy audio in voice mail on windows xp. How do I fix? Thanks

    Not a solution but possibly narrowing down where the problem is. I have noticed that for me the problem is primarily 9 AM to 10 PM. These time are not exact but just approximate times when I get mostly choppy audio. Using the Magic Jack outside these hours or on Saturday (today is Saturday and it is worked wonderful all day) you get very acceptable results. This leads me to believe that the Magic Jack network is not capable of handling the traffic. They need to add more servers/bandwidth. Just my two cents. You may have a different experience and I would be interested in hearing it.

    I'm hearing the same choppy audio at certain times. This does appear to be a service provider issue since it works clearly at other times which says your hardware is good. Its sad that they can't troubleshoot this issue before it kills the company. This might be a take the money and run con. They provide a real service and run it to the ground, turn off the lights and start back up again somewhere else. The CEO of this company did it with AOL VOIP, whos to say he isn't doing it again. I think AOL pulled the plug but who knows. He may be dedicated to making this work and I hope he fixes this soon.

    The audio codec they use is from could try updating the divx audio codec. Just a suggestion....

    I have had a magicjack for about a year. I never had any problems hearing anyone else, but they many times told me I sounded like a robot/choppy or said they heard and echo. I fixed the echo problem for them by lowering my speaker and microphone volumes. Now usually no poblems for them. Altough as of yesterday April 27th 2009 I now hear them as choppy. This is new to me, as I always heard them perfect. Any sugestions ?

You can set the priority on the process to high by going to task manager, sometimes it can be too much ram usage by other programs for example Anti-virus or something running in the background.

To set Priority:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up task manager, select processors tab, right click magic jack processor and set priority to high.

As indicated by an earlier participant on this page i read avout the DivX problem and remembered recently downloading and installing such. i went to uninstall from my "add/remove programs" and the problem was imidiately gone. Thanks community. lets continue working together.

That was my resolution. i hope it works for you also.

    i just had the same choppy problem and moved the base from my cordless phone away from the computer and it fixed the problem

Magicjack problems

Magic Jack stores your messages as an AUDIO FIle. You play them back via Microsoft's player program. If your audio program is not working, then you can not play them back. Check and see if you can play a music file from the sample music folder. It works OK, then Windows Audio is fine. If not you may have turned off the Audio. Look to the lower right side of the computer screen and you will see a small speaker. Left click and see if the VOLUME is set to an audible pitch suitable to you. Check the master control and make certain it is on, set to the type of speakers you use. If all the settings are correct and the sound level is OK, then you should be able to play back your messages. Write back if you still have the same problem.

The voice of the person talking to me over Magic Jack breaks up. It is as though the sound fades in and out making it impossible to understand what the person is saying.

Voice on both end cuts in and out when using the magic jack

Thanks for getting back with me. I have not found a solution to the problem, but have found out what the problem is. The problem is the jitter. The data is not sent out in a constant stream, but is broken up and sent out. My jitter was measured as 201.9 ms, which indicates that it is too unpredictable to sustain a constant flow of data. Now I need to know how to fix that.

Sony ICD-B600 voice recorder

Use a cable running from the headphone jack on the recorder into your PC microphone jack. Then you can capture the audio using Windows MovieMaker software that comes with Windows XP. I have done this and it worked perfectly.
