If your computer can access the internet, you can simply donwload the driver from the lexmark website for your printer and use the add/remove hardware wizard to install the printer.
you can also copy the content of the disk to a usb flash drive and run the wizard from there.
or you can simply borrow a cd-rom drive from a friend or from your neighbor so you ca install your printer.

hope this'll help you

I cant find the right installer for my samsung cd rom sc148f...

You shouldn't need any installer. Support for your drive is part of Windows already. It's just a standard CD drive. If the drive is properly connected (data cable plugged in at both ends and power plug seated) and Windows doesn't detect it, there is something wrong with the drive or you have a bad data cable.

DVD-RW burn drive is being recognized as CD-rom drive; it's not the laser, because I went through the trouble of purchasing a brand new DVD burner drive and it's doing the same exact thing. Can anybody...

Hello,

If you have not done so, under device manager, remove the dvd rom (cd-rom) from the hardware list, Use the CD install disk that come with your DVD-ROM, install the drivers and software, then reboot your pc and let it install the new hardware detected. This should get you going.

My computer will not read any of my disk or install

when you say disk did you mean hard disk? if you do... did you recenlty install a new hard disks?... if you did... did you check the jumper-master-slave configuration when installing the new hard disk?
only one hard disk can be configured as master in each ide channel. set up to master (not single) the one on the end of the ide cable and set up to slave the one attached to the midlle of the ide cable.
check that both hard drives are properly attached to the cable and that the power cable is properly seated.

when you say disk did you mean cd rom disks or dvd disks?
does it work in other computers? if it doesnt.. you cd/dvd disks may be the problem
are you trying to read a dvd disk on a cd rom only drive... you can't read a dvd in a cd rom drive.
if you cd/dvd rom drive should read the disk you're putting in, check in device manager if your system detects the cd/dvd rom drive. if it doesn't: check the physical connections (reseat ide cable, check jumper configuration for slave and master on your cd/dvd rom drive and check that the power cable is properly seated), check also in device manager the properties of the cd/dvd rom drive and check if it says on device status if the device is working correctly. if it doesn't post the error code that it may give you or google a solution with error code.

suggestion.. be more specific when posting your questions.. that way it will be easier for a solution to be provided as your issue could be interpreted in different ways

Just bought a Gateway computer, trying to add a printer. Have the install disk, but it wont run in the CD drive. Trying running Autorun using all the drives I could find listed C,D,F,G,H, & I. No...

I am assuming that the printer is USB so the printer will not work without the drivers installed.
Could you please list what model the printer is?

There are a couple of solutions to look at for this.

First would be to determine with drive is actually your CD ROM drive. I would try putting an normal audio CD into the drive and looking through the drives listed to see whch one says "audio CD" That would tell you which letter you need to go into to run the install CD for your printer.

The second would be not to use the CD at all and just download the newest software from the manufactures site (assuming you have an internet connection) usually you would go to the manufactures website and try to find a support or help section. Many times they then have an area where you can specify you product and what you need, you follow that and find the software and/or drivers for your model printer.

Cd rom

No if the old burner is working fine you do not need to remove that...anayway even if the old drive is not properly functioning it has no effect on other drives...
You are having a another problem
1. You need to have a proper burning software to burn disks...
2. There also can be lose conections between data and power cables

Installation

You need to use floppy disks (called boot disks) to boot DOS with cd-rom drivers, because the win98 cd isn't bootable by default.

I suggest you to go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and grab the respective windows 98 boot disk.

You will need a functional computer to write the disk image into the floppy.

After that put the boot order in BIOS as floppy first.

Once you see DOS prompt A:\> just access your cd-rom drive like d: or e: and then type install
