Garmin NUVI 660 - can not locate satellite

My garmin Nuvi 660 lost its satellite connection on the middle of a trip yesterday and couldn't locate the satellite afterwords. It freezes up at the aquiring satellite mode for ever. I updated all the firmwares using the Garmin webupdater today. Now it sits at the locating satellite screen and doesn't lock to any satellite at all. I cannot register with Garmin as I don't have the yellow paper with the Garmin registration code as it was an openbox customer return item. Could anyone please help me to fix this problem. I am having the same problem as everyone else and Garmin has given me the same runaround. The problem with the losing of the satelittes started right after I used Webupdater and downloaded their last update. Garmin gave me a website that some guy has saved all the old Garmin software ( I guess he knew their may be a future problem with Garmin) it is www.gpsinformation.org/perry/ I returned my GPS software back to ver.2.70 for my Quest 2 and the problem with the satellite dropouts are a little less frequent. Garmin said that they do not endorse this website and to use at my own risk. I will stuggle along with this until I can afford a Maggellin GPS

Please read this solution, which might help you. On the 660, you press and hold the upper-left hand corner of the screen while turning on.

Try this and see if it fixes your problem....first disable bluetooth then follow these steps.

1. Power off the unit.

2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).

3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from the above problem.

RESET OR TURN THE DEVICE OFF AND ON AGIN IT MAY WORK. BE SURE U R IN AN OPEN AREA. CLEAR SKY R BEST. STANDING NEAR TO BIG BUILDING OR NERA POWER TOWERS MAY CAUSE TO LOOSE THE CONNECTION.

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.
