Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a toshiba U400 satellite laptop and am connected to broadband adsl. My media player is not working properly as on radio broadcasts it cuts out after about 30-40 secs. If I watch a video on U tube the picture freezes at any old time - sometimes after a few secs others times after a minute or so. Very frustrating. Can anyone help. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for trying to help, but it appears that Media Players are yet to be perfected, as no one really wants to listen to music with pauses every few bars etc

This could be due to a number of things. Here are some things to check:
1. any program that uses the internet in the background.. (EG: printer update, windows update, limewire, etc.) will use your bandwidth and slow your movie player and steaming audio.
2. the time of day your watching it.. if you watch when none else is watching , it will come faster. If you watch when 2 million ppl are logged onto youtube, dont expect a fast download.
3. the speed of your providers' service to you ... you can run a speedtest at different times of the day and see if there's a better time when you get faster speeds.
4. spyware, malware and viruses will tie up your internet.. i use a little program called ATF CLEANER available at http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGkkSyVBJJtfgAqZpXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTBydHRjbmRzBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMwRjb2xvA3NrMQR2dGlkAw--/SIG=123r9aaon/EXP=1226024498/**http%3a//www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php%3fid=1
this small program almost makes it unneccessary to have a spyware program installed as it cleans out all your junk, temp and cache files and does not touch your system files. just download it to your desktop, double clck it to run. it will tell you how much free space it clears, and then tell you no files were found after you clean em all. always run the program twice.
There are many ways to optimize both your computer and internet connection and unfortunately twice as many ways things can get slowed down. try these steps and post here again if it doesnt clear up.
Regards.

When hearing or viewing live videos or hearing to any live feed usually works with many pauses in between due to the process if like that only...the content requires time to get downloaded into the buffer only after which the regular playing of the videos occur..
obviously there wil be many pause and stops in between during live feed..

thankyou

How do i play a DVD on my computer? I is a Satellite Pro L770 Series

You need DVD playing software on the laptop to play. It usually comes with the laptop if you have the original install disks. Otherwise you will need something like http://download.cnet.com/Easy-DVD-Player/3000-7970_4-10104512.html

My internet connect keep disconnecting

If you are using broadband connection through telephone line, then check for the connection of your router made to ADSL of the splitter. Telephone shall not be connected before the ADSL. If it is correct change the splitter. Wrong connections cause disconnections when there is incoming telephone call or if a outgoing call is made.

I have a toshiba satellite a350d-ba3 how to setup wireless connection.i got different networks but all need a keyword.I tried to set up my own network and it was successful.I had saved it on a usb,but...

You have two questions thrown. And I will try to answer one after the other. You said you have wireless card. If you have no WIFI in your location, your wireless card could not be used so you need a router from the Broadband connection which your satellite computer will have a wire connection from the router. If you have WIFI booster connected from the router, your wireless card will be used without wire connection direct from the router.

HI.I was watchinglive streaming but there is a eror sudenly.this eror:rtsp://78.129.143.64/broadcast/pull/81.31.32.47:2030/broadcast/pull/81.19.7.50:3051/stv3.rmvb Can you help me...

Streaming audio/video quality can be affected by connection rate and Internet congestion. Many types of interruptions between your computer, your player, your computer's OS, your local network, your ISP and a streaming server can exist and cause trouble....
When you listen to the live audio/video stream, the sound or video skips, cuts out or buffers if the player doesn't have enough network bandwidth, it will buffer. Try increasing your player's buffering setting. Also:
  • Make sure you are choosing the appropriate bandwidth version of a media stream based on your Internet connection.
  • Make sure you are choosing the appropriate bandwidth settings in an Internet media player or streaming audio/video recorder.
  • Make sure NOT to download applications or files while watching/listening to media streams. Your Internet connection is shared between all open applications including your web-browser, your download manager and your streaming player. Closing applications that use your Internet connection simultaneously with your streaming player may reduce buffering.
  • Close other unnecessary applications that may be open on your computer. Reboot your computer. If you have lots of other programs open, they may be using too much processor time and/or RAM for the player to work properly.
  • Make sure your Internet connection is fast enough to reliably listen to streaming audio and/or watch streaming video online. High speed Internet connection is recommended.
  • Make sure your computer is fast enough. If your computer is old, it might be too slow to play an audio/video stream regardless of what else it's doing.
  • Update your media players and streaming audio/video recorders regularly.
Internet congestion can slow down the delivery of the stream, make it difficult for you to connect or cause buffering. Often the interruption is temporary. Please try to connect a few times at different times of the day, if possible. If you repeatedly have problems connecting, please notify your ISP - there are often quick fixes they can make when they learn about your issue.

Try the above steps you will find a solution to your problem....100% it will work.....

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps

you need
  • you need a phone line that is active for dial up,or non active for naked adsl
  • you need a dial up modem if you want dial up, adsl modem for broadband
  • sign up with an ISP (monthly cost) and obtain user name and password
  • enter user name and password (generaly via ISP cd) into (adsl)modem or setup dial up connection in windows
  • wait for ISP to notify you the line has been activated, for adsl, not dial up.
