SOURCE: Toshiba TDP-S20 lamp problem

The lamp ballast which ignites the lamp has failed it sounds like. The red flashing lamp is the tell tale sign with a good lamp installed. Make sure the lamp door is closed too, there is a door switch that can also trigger the red lamp and no startup. There is a company in San Diego CA that can repair the unit called PROJECTOR DOCTOR

No hdmi sound from macbook pro to toshiba 40E210U

I was having this exact problem. You have to go to the "Audio MIDI setup" icon in the utilities folder. plugin your mac to the HDMI and TV and it should show up on the menu bar on the left as "HDMI"- then click it. then you have to click on the "format" drop down menu and change it to either 48000.0Hz or less. Make sure that the volume is down on your TV bc I almost gave myself a heart attack when I clicked it. Apparently the TV HDMI input is not compatible with the default on the Mac. Hope this helps!

Thin black lines: projector TDP-ET20

Do a factory reset to the projector. In my experience that fixes alot of image problems.

TDP-S8 only run for 20 sec.

Possible filter problem or sensor related to over heat. Might also be a bad bulb or worn out bulb.
Leaning more towards bulb replacement.

Macbook pro + IBM m4000

Depends on the connections you have on both. Most MacBook Pros have a DVI connector on the side. If the IBM projector takes that sort of input, then all you need is that cable.
If the IBM projector has a VGA input, then you'll need an adaptor from DVI to VGA.
(VGA input is standard monitor looking connector.)

Toshiba TDP S8

First make sure your signal cable is ok and well connected.
Next check the projector input settings in the menu, and confirm that you have the correct input selected.
Also make sure your Laptop display settings allow for an external monitor.
