Question about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

Cannon G7 need help

Hi there.
Thanks so much for your help.
My G7 lens seems to get stuck when I turn on. No image on the screen.
Power, memory seem fine.
Just a short lens, no zoom, no live image on LCD.

When I push the power button (from 100% off) once, the lens opens and it extends about .25cm. Then I push power button again an it extends to about 1 cm then I push power again and the little green light comes on next to wheel on top right.

I then must push the play button (blue above right to LCD)... this Fully Extends the lens way out then retracts fully and closes the cover on the lens and then the LCD turns on and I can scroll photos .... normal activity...then I push play again and the LCD powers off and were closed and powered off.

So, the lens is not stuck as it really does extend 100% and goes in and out no problem but automatically ... zoom control is not working).

I recall exactly when all this started...I took a bunch of photos of a new Condo ... powered off and then back on and ug broken..ie no trama, no rain, no drop, no kids, no coke or gum or dirt.

I did try taking out the battery, charging the battery, taking out the memory card.

HELP PLEASE
Thanks much

Hello - I have exactly the same problem.

Last time I used the Camera (Canon PowerShot G7) it worked perfectly well. This morning when I turn the Power Button the lens will not extract, it gets "stucked", but when I push Replay button, it extracts fully and closes... :-(

Zoom doesn't work... I've looked at some of solutions for E18 error, but those don't seem to work here... :-(

Does anyone know how to solve this?

When switching on my G7 the screen remains dark, and the lens is going out only for few mm. Shot or zoom don't work. I still can have access to the menu or picture view. I recharged the battery and formatted the SD card without success. Thanks for your help.

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Turn the power off and on again message

Hi,

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settigs 1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

My cannon is showing a black screen in the camera mode and the same after the image is taken..........i think the internal lens is not openeing............pls help?

Your correct in your assumption. A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Unfortunately, you have just found the one limitation of CMOS technology...they do not survive power spikes. Sorry mate, but it is probably stuffed good!

Transferred the pictures from the memory card onto the computer and put card back in. Tried to turn it on, but now the lens is stuck, it didn't open fully, and I need help. It seems to have frozen while...

This would need to be repaired if the lens is stuck so is the shutter. I would take it in and have it looked at. there is no other resetting then what you already have done ot the unit.

thanks for rating.

The lens cover is not really needed, but you can replace it yourself if you can find that other part. If you can't find it, just remove the lens cover entirely and just be careful with your lens. Here's an example:
