Take the printer cartridge out of the printer and turn it off. Then turn it back on again and check the status in the computer on the ink available in the cartridge. If the pc does not recognize that there is no cartridge in the printer when it is removed then uninstall the software, disconnect the usb cable from the pc to the printer and go to hp's website to reinstall a newer version of the software www.hp.com.

Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

to get the driver for Vista. Don't connect the printer untill the software instructs you to do so. You will see a message that says the software in not compatible. Click to allow it anyway. Vista doesn't like any outside software and won't recognize any drivers but its own. You will have to go into the printer file in the control panel and select the new driver as the default.
