You'll need a repair disc or system disc to boot from. Once you boot from it you want to got to the Recovery Console so that you can run the DOS prompt in the black window that appears with white writing. Type the following command: Chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour so be patient. You'll even see the percentage of completion going from high to low but that's normal too. Once it complete reboot your machine. If you still have problems you'll need to reinstall your operating system. There are ways to do a repair install which preserves your files, docs, music, pics, videos and data. If you do a new install you'll lose everything.

Take the hard drive out and see if anything comes up on the screen. If so, replace the hard drive.
Does the screen get any brighter when you turn on the laptop? If not, the lcd cable, or power inverter may have gone bad.
Did you have any blue screen of death errors, or any other kind of errors before the screen problem? If so, you may have bad memory. Do you hear any beeps?
