SOURCE: Just replaced temp sender unit
Hi, why did you change the sender in the first instance? If you mean the water is pushing past the radiator cap when the engine is hot, and suspect the head gasket is the cause of the water pressurising the system, run the bike with 1 plug removed if the cooling system is getting pressurised from a leaking gasket, then with the plug removed no pressure will be forced into the system from that cylinder and the water should not push past the radiator cap, try this on all cylinders one at a time to eliminate them, if the pressure does stop at any time then the head gasket COULD be at fault, you can buy a kit which measures water in th exhast system

when the bike is cold remove the radiator cap and start the bike let it idle and look into the radiator you will be able to see the circulation if the water pump is working
SOURCE: fitted new downpipes to bike obviously took
It does sounds like the switch is at fault unless the switch does not have a good ground to complete circuit.
SOURCE: I have 1985 Honda 500
I have a friend that had similar problems with a CX500. He just left out the thermostat. It took longer to warm up on cold days but never made a noticeable difference in performance. All shadows tend to run on the hot side anyway. I would just leave out the thermostat. You can also purchase antifreeze modifiers like "ICE" to help your machine run cooler. Products like this are used in racing with water instead of antifreeze. But they also improve the cooling properties of antifreeze.
