Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I walked away from my laptop for a few hours. When I returned to use it the screen was black. Since that time the low battery indicator has been lit (pink). I alway have it plugged in so It should not be discharged, but it will only power on when plugged in, and the screen goes black and unresponsive after showing boot options (f11 etc...) I have tried system restore but but it does not recognize the disk. I tried f8 safe mode, which set off a loud beeping sort of alarm sound that only stopped when I powered off.

I just took it to a computer repair center and was told it is most likely the hard drive...approx. $200.00 if I want it fixed.

Are you using the correct AC adaptor and is it working correctly? Is it possible that something has changed (battery, AC adaptor, mains cable)? Try removing the battery and running on mains power only.

This isn't a software issue. If your laptop is still under warranty have it serviced. If not, see if the costs involved are even worth it. Something within the hardware sounds like it caused a chain reaction and has affected more than just the battery.

My Asus netbook is stuck on configurig windows

I am not sure that is a problem. Just a few hours ago I reinstalled Windows 7 on a Toshiba, and I almost gave up: It rebooted close to 30 times and every time I was seeing the same Configuring ... screen. But it did eventually change to some other splash screen and the after a few returns to the Configuring... screen the process did advance and eventually finish.
Arm yourself with patience. Just go for long (2-3 hour) walk.

Package, manuel and receipt were accidentally thrown away and we don't know how to charge the radios. They work, but are running low on battery power! They have a power supply cord that you plug both...

From what I just read on the Cobra website, you may be misinterpreting the battery indicator lights:

My radio keeps showing low batteries

This may simply be a matter of misinterpreting the low-battery indicator. We use two different types of battery indicators:
  1. Battery Level Indicator: This battery indicator is always visible, and has several segments. When all the segments are lit, the batteries are full. When only the last segment is lit, the batteries are almost exhausted.
  2. Low Battery Indicator: This type is usually NOT visible. It only appears when the batteries are low, at which time it flashes on the display to warn you of a low battery condition.
Please note that when you turn on your radio it first performs a display test. Everything on the display will light up for a few seconds, including the Low Battery Indicator. This does not mean that the batteries are low. After a few seconds the display test will end, at which time the Low Battery Indicator should go away.

Here is a link to the Manual for your radio:

https://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/PR260WX_MANL.pdf

It is a PDF file, which requires that you have Adobe Reader or equivalent installed on your computer for it to open and display properly. If you don't have it, it can be found here (it's free!):

Good luck!

My Samsung SyncMaster 740N occasionally turns itself off. Timing varies and the condition varies. Usually the screen just goes black - from seconds to hours after it is turned on - the blue LED remains...

This could be because of the 'eco' friendliness of the monitor. Basically a lot of monitors are designed to turn off into a low power state when not in use so to preserve power and life of the monitor. I would return the monitor as the sensors that control this seem to be broken in your monitor.

Dell D600 Battery Causes Screen to go Black

Laptop batteries normally just last for a few years, depending on usage. If your battery is almost done, it may report a 'full' status, but just have the capacity to feed your laptop for a few minutes.

You may check this by disconnecting current while your laptop is started up. If low battery capacity is the cause, the same will happen within a few minutes.

Laptops normally go in standby on low battery, to avoid data loss.

I have a toshiba laptop, and in the last few weeks something weird started happening. When the laptop is plugged into the AC, the power meter in windows tells me that the power source is still batteries,...

Change your AC charger.
It's NOT charging "When the laptop is plugged into the AC, the power meter in windows tells me that the power source is still batteries, and the battery level drops by about 1% every few hours"
That's the reason why: "battery has completely died"
If you do not change it you'll continue to "still it gives me the same low battery indication and will not turn on. "

Screen went black

Hi, could be anything to do with video. Might be the on board video card or its memory. It is also possible that your display lost its back lite and you just can see the display. Try turning the laptop on normally and let it run for a while. Try tilting the display left right up down as if trying to gaze at the inside of the display. If you can see faint traces of your desktop then it is definitely the back lite, if none then something else is at fault. Either way you will have to bring it back for repairs or replacement. You can also try checking the memory by sliding out the panel cover at the bottom of the casing. There might be a screw or two locking the cover panel in place. Try wiggling the memory a bit, might have loosen up somehow. If still a no go, then perhaps you're really better off sending it back for repairs/replacement. Hope this works out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
